Anyone replace their Rem 700 Trigger with the Timney?

I did one in my Savage Model 10 a while back.

Not exactly what I was looking for but beggars can't be choosy, so here goes:

1) Does it have the same travel the stock trigger has but just reduces the force required to pull the trigger?
I'm not interested in creating a hair trigger, and in fact, I like having some travel, I just would like a nice smooth
action on the trigger. I had a trigger job done on the existing trigger and the trade off to reduce the force required
to pull the trigger was to create almost zero travel on the trigger. I dislike it as much as I did the original trigger
adjustment.

2) Did it take any special tools or skills to install the trigger and are there detailed installation instructions?

It's a hair trigger by default. It may be able to be adjusted some but I doubt it can be adjusted so much to have the stock travel. Yes it took special tools. You will have to grind out some of the stock in order to have the casing fit right.

Mine has zero travel and a glass rod break at 26 ounces. It did not require any special tools for my Savage.

Thanks,

This seems OK for a range rifle but not what I want in my hunting rifle. The stock trigger was a mess but the
reworked trigger has similar characteristics to what your trigger has. I feel very uncomfortable using the rifle
unless at the range.

Now I guess the question is: Where can I go to get something that would meet my criterea? Any suggestions?

What you need is a two-stage trigger.

While not cheap, these two 2-stage triggers allow you do dial the characteristics of both stages to suit your needs.

The best of the best is the Chombart CG-22, manufactured by X-treme Shooting Products. I know the owner of XSP, he's a hell of a shooter, a machining and wire EDM expert, and his input to Robert Chombart made the CG-22 into one of the premier triggers in the world. I have tried target rifles with it and it is an amazing unit. http://www.x-tremeshooting.com/index.php?page=cgxtrememod22

The Huber Concepts two-stage trigger is less expensive but much less is known about it. It might be worth a try if it meets your pull force needs and you can return it. http://www.huberconcepts.com/Remington700.htm

Try doing a Google search of "set trigger" for Remington . I was looking around last week and came across a trigger does just what you're looking for. 3Lb normal, push trigger forward to set, and then 6 oz let off. Best of both worlds, but not cheap. Around $300 if I remember.

When is he going to get the Winchester model? Last I heard he was working on them.

I have rifles with two stage triggers (Anschutz, AR, M1), single stage triggers (Howa, Remington) and single set triggers (CZ).

By far the best and more user friendly are high quality two stage triggers.

For $300, the only one to get is the Chombart CG-22 two stage.

I don't know. I'll ask Tom next time I run into him.

That would be great Jose, I'd really appreciate it. I got one of his AR triggers a couple of months ago and I like it a lot. I have two M70s and I'd really like to replace the triggers, especially on the Palma rifle.

I'm going to take him my sleeved M700 Palma rifle to see if the CG-22 fits in the recess for the original trigger. The CG-21, which had a slightly different mount than the OEM trigger, did not.

Will be doing that after I pay for the Manners stock I have coming for my Howa.
