Whats the big deal with this gun? I shot about 150 rounds out of my buddies the other day and do not like this gun at all. Where do you hold it? I grab it like a regular rifle and the multi-mount barrel cover damn near cuts your hands, I grab the 30 round clip and it's hard to steady, not to mention that after 20 rounds your ready to drop it anyways. I mean what GOOD is this gun?
Just to look cool? I mean come on, if you have varmint to shoot at a distance, this will do it nicely, but if you just want to shoot fast and accurate, go buy a Ruger 10/22, you can mod the crap out of the gun for a hell of a lot less money, and lets not forget the ammo cost and availability.
A neat toy? Money to burn? Armageddon?
If your waiting for the crap to hit the fan, then I don't know what to tell you.

So, really, why is this gun so sought after?

If you don't put all sorts of rails and heavy barrel and other accessories on it, the original model 20" rifle is very light and handy, and the iron sights are extremely accurate.

Maybe the one you shot just was not the setup for you. They are like legos in that there are so many parts out there for them you can make just about anything you want. I have a handguard on one of mine that only has a full rail on the top then partial rails at 3, 6, and 9 o'clock for example so it is smooth where you grip it.

Come shoot mine - you may change your mind...[grin]

If you dont like the AR series give the Hk91 a run for its money or try and see if you can handle the FAL.

Maybe the AK is more to your liking?

BTW they are not clips (unless your talking about the spring steel clip that the M1 Garand uses to hold its 8 Cartridges) they are called Magazines.

Sorry man - number 5 is a catalog... [grin]

Or... maybe an AR (whatever that might be) is not his cup of tea. There are many folks that love'em. I love shooting them. But I fully respect his right to have a contrary opinion. An S&W 500 is not my cup of tea, but I know at least one guy on this list that would disagree completely.

And let's not forget... one less person trying to find .223/5.56 ammo right now is a good thing!

Different guns have different uses that they are best suited for. But nothing beats the AR15 when it comes to killing zombies, and that is the one thing I devote my life preparing for. I have watched enough movies to know that it is going to happen eventually.

I have your basic Bushmaster M4gery with EOTech scope. It is weighted nicely so you can stand there and hold/fire it easily. (Try standing there pointing an M1 Garand for a while. Yikes.) The EOTech I have on it makes acquiring the zombie head target a snap. The almost nonexistent recoil lets me reacquire the next zombie head target very quickly and to fire again. And you know how those things just keep coming at you, dozens or hundreds of them.... every second counts! Cheap 30 rd mags (even in MA) let me go longer w/o reloading. It is ergonomically designed so I can quickly change mags (try that with an AK -- mag changing on that is annoying and slow).

I could go on and on, but that's a good start.

I bought my AR because I'm a mindless lemming that bought one because the rest of you have one. That and it looks cool. Really cool. Like, 'oh my God, this is so freakin' sweet I've got to have one. Damn, I look just like GI Joe now. Look, see?'

Oh yeah, and it's not because I've got a little penis, 'cause I don't, see? It's like a really, really big penis! Really! Everybody says so!

Hello - I have done a search on the web for Silver Lynx 10 rnd magazines. I have only been able find ones that are for the R55. Are they compatible?

Strange but I have the same attitude towards AKs and the SKS but what ever floats your boat. I have 3 ARs 2 in 223 and 1 in 22 rf and I have a ball with each,in fact I may try building myself a lower sometime soon.

why ARs? Why pretty guns with lots of doodleing on it? Dont ask why, buy and try then pass it along. A gun is a gun. Until you find the ones you love.
I had to get an AR the garand just could not keep the commie guns in line no more!!
