I'm quite certain he must have been doing it like this....

I'd hit it.

Whats the big deal with this gun? I shot about 150 rounds out of my buddies the other day and do not like this gun at all. Where do you hold it? I grab it like a regular rifle and the multi-mount barrel cover damn near cuts your hands, I grab the 30 round clip and it's hard to steady, not to mention that after 20 rounds your ready to drop it anyways. I mean what GOOD is this gun?
Just to look cool? I mean come on, if you have varmint to shoot at a distance, this will do it nicely, but if you just want to shoot fast and accurate, go buy a Ruger 10/22, you can mod the crap out of the gun for a hell of a lot less money, and lets not forget the ammo cost and availability.
A neat toy? Money to burn? Armageddon?
If your waiting for the crap to hit the fan, then I don't know what to tell you.

So, really, why is this gun so sought after?

Different rifles have different applications, the AR15/M16 are military designated rifles and because of their modularity they are also ideal rifles for non military and hobby shooters.

There is also some carry over from those in the military who shoot them for sport, hobby, and for their actual designation but in civilian hands.

As was mentioned they are highly customizable, from the stock length, to cheek welds, to sights, to scopes, to triggers...the list goes on and on and one can be customized exactly as the end user wants. Except for the $10k FA investment.

Because AR's make it easier to kill lots and lots of people efficiently.

Duh?!

Oh, wait, sorry, I forgot. We all agreed collectively to pretend that they are simply the most well engineered, cost effective, ubiquitous long arm in production today and that's the only reason.

Fudd detector is @ 100% captain. Steady all decks. Prepare for fire.

MA took care of that efficiency thing by making it not OK to add an adjustable stock to post ban rifles, so discomfort in your shoulder will clearly prevent any mall rampages, as homicidal maniacs would never violate that particular rule.

Also, you can't bayonet anyone anymore, which as we all know was the most common cause of death in libraries and bus stops prior to 1998. The dark ages of bayoneting are a thing of the past.

No longer can we have the shoulder thing that goes up, which as is common knowledge turned people into the predator. With Arnold aging away in California we can't allow any more predators.

So we are back to the well engineered cost effective thing....

But suprisingly enough they allow muzzle brakes which really do help keep the gun from rising up and allow you to dump a mag fast as you an pull the trigger and stay on target easily.

Or so I hear anyway.

It is! Try as I might to keep my man-cave pure, my kids continue to infiltrate. The Squire Strat's my daughter's but the bass is mine.

I don't get what the big deal is about the Beretta 96FS either, but you don't see me whining about it.

"Multi-mount barrel cover"?

Using the "30 round clip" as a grip?

Not being able to hold it after 20 rounds?

[thinking]

Plus, if something goes bump in the middle of the night, I'm sure as hell not greeting them with a 10/22.

No offense to the OP, but most of the issues sound like he's doing something wrong.
