I got an old, used AR-7 (Armalite - Cosa Mesa, CA) today on a whim for short money. It came with 2 mags that have the tiniest bit of play in them, and it seems that it will not feed the ammo properly unless I hold/make sure the mags are up tight in the magazine well. Even then it gets a bit fussy. The shop I got it from will gladly take it back within 7 days of purchase, but I'd like to hear some possible "home remedies" first. I don't expect it to perform perfectly, but it would be nice if it didn't jam at each load without me holding the mag in place.

I read a bit on AR7's problems and it seems this is a common complaint. I thought it might be fun to have another 22, but I'd hate to return it if there's an easy fix someone can share with me. Thanks.

I've never seen one that wasn't a jam-o-matic. If you want a cool "survival" rifle, get an M6 Scout:

Most people seem to like the Marlin Papoose better...maybe if I come across one in the future I'll get it...but for now I'd be happy to find a remedy for my AR-7...No big deal if it is what it is...I'll return it and put the cash toward something else.

Only run hi test in them LOL the one I used to have ran best with Hi velocity ammo so the hotter the better. and lube the shot out f it.

Maybe you need new recoil springs. Henry makesthe AR 7 now, maybe their springs will work. I had one years ago and Ihad a ball with it. try Wolff springs they may be able to help as well

Just for giggles I just went to the Wolff spring site and low and behold ,they do have springs for the AR 7 $12,29 a pair. Hope this helps.
