AR upgrade from A1 to A2 sights

Hey ya'll, simple question and I'm not finding an answer anywhere:

On an AR-15, is it possible to upgrade the sights on an A1 upper from A1 to A2 sights without changing the upper?

I could be wrong, as I am no expert on A1 sights but I think it would be difficult at best. My guess is that you would have to modify the carry handle extensively to get the A2's to go on.

Why not keep the A1 and get an A4 upper to compliment it.

It would cost more to have done than buying a new upper and rebarreling it.
