AR15 in 22LR

Another rifle you should consider is the Ruger SR-22. It is based on the 10/22 platform and is all metal no plastic parts. It is very solid and has some heft. Downside is the controls are not the same as an AR it is an AR "style" rifle. I chose it over the S&W because it felt more solid to me. It was good out of the box but I upgraded the barrel to a Volquartsen match barrel and plan on adding a Kidd trigger group.

I thought about the Ruger but I really want something that's close to the original AR. I guess what I want is the Umarex with the S&W reliability. I'll probably end up with the S&W.

The SR-22 chassis is made by Nordic Components. If you have a 10-22 you can buy the new chassis and save a few bucks.

I received the Nordic upper today, looks real nice. I took off the A1 flash hider and installed a Cooley comp that come off another rifle. Timed the comp to fit flush without a crush washer. The upper has good weight to it and feels like my other ARs. I take it to the range tomorrow to see how she run

I have a tacsol dedicated upper and I highly recommend them. If you already have an AR, a dedicated upper is a good option. Great for an Appleseed. I had a much easier time with magazine changes vs the 10/22 folks.

Would the M&P 15-22 be a suitable gun to bring to an Appleseed? Seems like all anyone on this forum talks about using at one is the 10-22. I'm not a big Ruger fan so I'd be looking for an alternative.

Purchased a Sig 522 and it has been 100% reliable with any ammo I have run through it and happy with the accuracy. Trigger was very smooth right out of the box. Great AR style 22LR. No hesitation recommending this rifle.

I had a chance to get to the range today.... Ran 350 rounds through the Nordic. had 2 stovepipes using Federal Bulk pack stuff. But the remainder ran 100%. I calling those 2 as ammo issues, most likely under powered (the same lot was stovepiping in my 10/22, which has always been super reliable)

The gun is a blast to shoot. It transitions and feels the same as my ARs. Worked on shooting on the move, transitions, shooting from odd positions (barricades) and then just played around burning though rounds.
I didn't have a change to see how it shot for accuracy since I was using a red dot and only had 25 yards.

The Upper is really well built

With the price on .223 and the time it takes to load it. The Nordic upper is a bargain and should pay for itself in about a month.

I have a Tactical solutions 22lr upper and a Spikes both the same style of bolt and barrel BUT the spikes uses a steel barrel and spikes sells a trip kit to use it on a m16 and it runs flawlessly with BD mags. I have tried the trip kit on the tac sol upper but it has a aluminum barrel with a steel insert and I don't wanna overheat it.

I used one for an Appleseed and made rifleman.
I did polish up the trigger parts, it much improved the trigger. It was a borrowed gun. If it was mine, I'd have put in a JP Rifles AR trigger spring kit. (yellow spring), which would have improved the trigger further.

Here is my thread where I asked about making rifleman with an M&P15: http://www.northeastshooters.com/vb...-Rifleman-with-an-M-amp-P-15?highlight=dcmdon

For what its worth. I've been very happy with my spikes .22 conversion kit. It does the job I want it to do , which is provide platform specific training. Its not a marksmanship platform.
