Anyone know if stores will sell uppers for an ar15 off a built rifle so if they have an AR15 in stock can you just buy the upper? I don't think many stores have uppers in general

We won't take apart a complete factory rifle to sell the upper. We will be happy to aquire/build the upper of a customers choice.

remsport manufacturing is selling a bunch of uppers in the classified dealers section, and ar15sales.com is located in Hampton NH but I don;t know if they have a store or if they're internet only.

Only way I would take an upper off a rifle in stock is if you were to pay the price it would cost me to put one back on it and I had it on order. A complete lower by itself is a hard sell.

Of even S&W or LMT.

Thing about the BCM and LMT is you need to get the rails/forend, bolt carrier group and charging handle, which can add another $180+ to your total.

Like a couple on here, I love my BCM and though costs more than a Model 1 or Del-Ton, its built to specs. and will hold up under intense use.

My Model 1 upper has taken everything I've thrown at it. Every type of cheap Russian ammo available. I've cleaned it twice in the last two years and put several thousand downrange with one failure to eject.

I have no qualms about it or my YHM upper.

There are a handful of companies that have really built and more importantly are currently maintaining a strong reputation right now and DPMS is NOT one of them. BCM has received phenominal reviews for quite a while now. Spikes is up there, I've heard nothing bad about YHM (though some insist that because a lot of their stuff costs less it's lower in quality, which I fully disagree with). Your not going to go wrong making a purchase from any of these companies.

Again, run it through a class where the rifle is taxed. My RRA ran well when it was on the range and not being pushed hard. I pushed it hard and it was FTE left and right.

How many mag dumps did you do with your AR to push it? I'm talking full 30rnds shooting, letting the mag just drop inserting and shooting as fast as you can, repeat. My last BCM went through 300rnds w/ 1 hiccup. Examining the failure to fire it was clearly bad ammo (used russian), nice big dimple center of the primer so no matter who struck it, it wouldn't fire.

Some of the stuff about YHM is that some of the stuff is pretty heavy and bulky.

that barrel at bravocompany isn't legal in MA has a flash hider and lug. Remsport isn't close to me i live near boston

just go to a gunshow in MA.

The Big E in Springfield, MA is coming up in 2 weeks. They have plenty of uppers for sale all ready to go. Full size down to NFA shorty uppers.

Pretty much anything you want.

Rob

Most stores don't sell uppers because there are so many configurations. People buy ARs because they can tailor them to their needs - it's difficult to stock enough different models and variants to satisfy customers. You're better off ordering or having one built for you. Also, no store is going to separate an upper from a complete rifle.

Call BCM - they'll make it MA compliant, or you can order as is and do it yourself...If you go ahead and buy one from the DPMS site, good luck to you...You've gotten a lot of good, sound suggestions from people who actually have an idea as to what they are talking about, yet you float back to DPMS.... No one can force you to make a sound decision I guess... Enjoy your new upper.....

This great advice, my next ar with a BCM. They have an incredible reputation.

well mainly DPMS for the price i don't have a ton of cash to spend! I am also looking at Rock River Arms they have a 20inch standard A4 with AWB compliant uppers for 490

You could probably get a BCM for about $150-200 more ready to go. If that's in your buget get it, if not the RRA is still OK. It's just a question of whether you want/need a hardcore, milspec rifle or not.

It's not so much that there's a lot wrong per se, it's that there's not a lot right. DPMS at one time was a well-respected builder - a small company that went mainstream. Around the time of the AWB sunset, DPMS issues started popping up infrequently. Now, issues like improperly cut chambers, improperly staked carrier jeys, canted front sight bases et. are becoming more frequent. The other issue as I see it is that DPMS is not really DPMS anymore. Cerberus swallowed them up along with Bushmaster, Remington, Marlin, New England Firearms, H&R. Quality control across the board has dropped in my opinion. The folks at Cerberus are not gun people - they're Wall Street suits looking to make a buck...Not that there's anything wrong with making a buck, but they're doing it at the expense of quality control - cutting corners.

Rock River is still independently owned, but heading down the same river. Once the darling of the independent AR producers, much of their equipment today is viewed as substandard - though their triggers still seem to be worth pursuing. The BCM upper made to your specs is a matter of a few bucks, or as stated earlier, you could have John at Remsport build you one for even less and for Christ sake, driving to his shop is not a big deal. Some of you Boston-types think anything past Newton is a trek into Western Massachusetts.... [grin]

In the end, if all you want is a range plinker, you'll likely be 'okay' with DPMS, but for a few bucks more, you could be more than okay and that's what simply does not make sense to a lot of us posting on this thread....
