I was looking at .380 caliber pocket guns, and I'm just wondering who carries a back-up with them in addition to a full size or compact carry gun?

Specifically I was looking at a Sig P232. I have no experience with the .380 caliber round, but the P232 is appealing to me. I'm not sure if it is too big for a back-up gun.

Id take the hit in size and bump up to a 9mm - .380 is 9mm short, and the trade off in gun size, IMHO, is well worth the trade off in round size.

I just picked up a Kel-Tec PF9 earlier this week, its a great little gun to carry as a BUG or as a primary if you really needed to conceal it well. It dissapears in my pants pocket, and is really easy to carry IWB with the belt clip. I put a few hundred rounds through it that same day with no issues and was amazed at how well it shot for such a small gun.

That would be my suggestion, for what its worth.

232 is just too big for me. Way too big for pocket carry or ankle carry. I'd look for a used Colt .380 instead. Or wait for a Sig 238. Or find a Kahr MK9 or PM9.

I carry a S&W Model 36, but its was my grandfather's gun so I would like to keep wear to a minimum. I'm looking to get a larger caliber semi-auto to carry, and then maybe something in a smaller caliber, easy to carry in a pocket during summer. I don't care for how the model 36 carries in my pocket, so I was looking to get a small semi-auto also.

So the consensus is a 9mm...

What options do I have in mass for a pocket size 9mm?

Yeah, the G26 is nice. I really don't care for the M&P 9c....

There was a Kahr at Bron's that I was so close to putting on the credit card. It was manufactured on the same month and day as my b-day. I was pissed I had to leave without the gun.

I won't tell you what to get and I'm just going to give you my opinion here. Mind you you live in the Commiewealth.. So finding a cheaper pocket 9mm will be difficult. A glock G26 is a bit too large to conceal in your pocket and you'll hate yourself if your lugging that around with your primary on your belt. You would be in good shape if you got your hands on a Keltec in 9mm but unless you're buying it from a friend get ready to give your left nut for it. I just picked up a S&W 637 for pocket carry. I can easily conceal it and I'll also carry a few speed loaders for summer carry. My primary is a Sig P239 and it's large and gets a lil bit printy in the summer hence why i made the investment in the 637. The 637 was new and reasonably priced and I dont have to worry about anyone else's home gunsmith f***-ups. It's reliable and will go bang when I want it to. Thats MHO. Good Luck.
