I'm not sure if any of you guys have seen the new billet lower receiver from BANE Firearms. These looked real nice in the photo but like everything else on the internet sometimes reality hits home very hard...Well not with this receiver!

I took it out of the bag and the first thing that hit me was the exactness and attention to detail.

I have seen a fair share of AR receivers in my time and I have yet to see any lower that can hold a candle to the BANE lower. The thought, design, attention to detail and the finish of this receiver is truly by far the best I've seen.... Combine a well thought out design, solid modeling, precision CNC machining and superb finishing all culminate in the BANE lower.

One of my pet peeves with the mil spec receivers is all those damn roll pins! For years I've been of the opinion that taking just a bit more time and careful machining most of these roll pins could easily be replaced with set screws. Now not all the roll pins were replaced with setscrews but at least some of them are.

An unanticipated challenge is now trying to find an upper receiver that's worthy to sit atop of this lower. I wrote BANE in an attempt to "encourage" them to offer a MATCHING UPPER! I'm not really yelling however I don't think anyone else is up to the task!

This is some information from their home page...

  • Machined in-house from solid 6061 aluminum billet on a modern, multi-axis CNC production mill
  • Solid, wide opening trigger-guard
  • Threaded, nylon-tipped screw to adjust upper receiver assembly tension
  • Captured rear take down pin-detent spring
  • Ribbed Magwell Front
  • Threaded bolt-catch pin (included)
  • Bullet Pictagrams (available plain or colored)
  • EDM-cut, wide, dual-flared magwell opening, takes all MILSPEC magazines
  • Low shelf
  • Full process Hard-Coat MIL-8625, Type III Anodized

Wish u would come out with a .308 setup also !

^THIS. +1

Matched billet upper/lower set in both 5.56 and in .308 would be fantastic.

BANE are not the only ones doing this, my Spikes Billet Upper and my QD billet lower do too. And you're right, it's a little more work, but it beats those damn roll pins.

[smile]

I find the billet Quentin Defense as well as the billet Seekins lowers to be of equal high quality.

If you price check it for billet lowers its in the same ball park. And they have some features others don't....

Such as?

CMT Tactical UHP15 Billet Multi. Cal. AR Lower Receiver
Cross Machine Tool Co Billet AR15 Stripped Lower Receiver

There's a pretty similar looking one with 7075 instead of 6061 at $50/$60 cheaper.

I price checked some other billet lowers:
Rainier Arms™ | Browse | Receivers - Lowers | NorthTech Defense AR15 Billet Lower Receiver
Black Rain Billet Stripped Lower-Beveled Mag Well & Winter Trigger Guard
Lone Star Armory TX15 Billet Lower Receiver - Stripped - Marked Multi
Noveske N4 5.56 Flared Forged Lower (FFL) Stripped Lower - Chainsaw Grade
Double Diamond AR-15 Billet Multi Caliber Lower Receiver

Not saying the Bane isn't a great lower or anything, just wondering what $250 gets you over the other choices. Hell, I'd get 2 of these over anything:

Rainier Arms™ | Browse | Receivers - Lowers | MEGA Forged Lower

There within 50$ of most of them . Chop it up to them being a pretty new company and product ?....

They got the threaded insert to tighten up the upper lower fit . Which isn't a huge deal but its standard for this lower .

Not all billet lowers use a set screw for bolt release , or a set screw for the rear detent .

I'm not saying there cheap by any means but there in the ballpark . figure longer they make these the prices should come down .....

things got put on the back burner with the addition of baby Business last week but I still plan on ordering the lower I designed in their contest a few months back
Congrats again on the little mogwi .
I be been trying to get some art work made to get engraved on a lower. At this point that's the only reason ill order another ar15 lower ....
Now I just need to find done one to help me make some gremlin theme art work .....
