Black Talons vs. modern day self defense ammo

Anyone know how today's self defense ammo compares to black talons or starfire?

Black Talons was definitely the urban myth ammunition. Ballistics wise it was pretty horrible IIRC.

The reason I ask is I have a few boxes of black talons in 9mm, 45ACP and ,357. Wondering if I would be doing myself a disservice carrying it opposed to Criticsl Defence.

I remember when I was younger and my Aunt was a nurse and how hysterical she was about the whole Talon controversy. I remember how crazed shows like 20/20 and Nightline were about it. My Uncle used to call Nightline Frightline, that always made me chuckle.

SXT is often called "SAME EXACT THING" when compared to Black Talon. When the idiots complained that black talons could shoot down Air Force One and kill Superman they just made the same thing a little better. Because you know that teflon kills superman and kittens.. jeez are you ever right regarding the hysteria. I remember an episode of ER back then had an story arc related to Black Talons, an "exploding bullet". Surgeon was removing a black talon from a gun shot victim, while the bullet was in his hands the thing EXPLODED!!!! destroying the talented surgeons hands and therefor his career. You would not believe how many times I had to discuss that with all the soccer moms here in town (as I was the resident "gun guy")

Those two are ancient, pleistocene era defense ammo. Ranger-Ts are way better than their predecessor, better, more reliable expansion and less chance of jacket/core separation.

Black Talons are for ammo collectors, shooting or carrying them is kinda pointless at this phase, unless it's all you have. BTs are still WAY better than some of the shitty defense ammo that is floating around out there, but that really isn't saying much.

Now, if the manufacturer had called them "white talons", they'd be like angel kisses.
