After borrowing a friend's Hi-Power for a couple of days, I've got the bug for one. Unfortunately, I'm poor and not interested in paying Browning prices for what will be primarily a range gun (with limited carry). So I'm looking at clones. I've seen ones from Argentina, Hungary, and Israel.

What experiences do you have with the clones? Certain ones better than others?

Anyone have one that they'll part with for less than $400? [smile]

Aloha

I got my FEG from a member here for exactly $400. Sorry, but I'll never part with it; the rest of the Internet is correct about the FEG clones. Fit, finish, and function are all excellent. I feel like I got a steal. Ensure you get the PJK-9HP; the other type of FEG just looks like the HP, but functions more like a SW.

Beat-up old Israeli trade ins made by FN are all over GB or short money if you can go that route.

I have two Browning Hi Powers and a FM (Argentina) Hi Power. Browning does not actually manufacture the pistols, they are made in Belgium by FN, and are the exact same gun used in the rest of the world, it's just that the ones coming into the U.S. say "Browning" on the side. The FM's were built under license from FN Belgium and the quality is very good, but they are very hard to come buy. The F.E.G.'s are clones made in Hungary, and from what I've seen they are decent guns. For a used one in Mass., they generally go for about half the price of the Browning, so $400.00-$500.00 would be a fair price. I've seen them for sale on this site from time to time, but none right now. There are also guys on the internet (like A.I.M) that sell Israeli police surplus FN's for about $400.00-$500.00. Unfortunately here in the Peoples Republic, we can't purchase them.

I believe the Israeli guns are actual FN-made guns, not clones.

I know that some of them are FN-made. I was also thinking about the Kareem/Kareen (seen it spelled both ways). Supposedly a locally-produced version for the Israeli Police. Square trigger guard so won't fit standard holsters.

I'll have to keep my eyes open for one.

Thanks. Unfortunately that whole "No shipping to Mass" puts a damper on that...
