Buying from the Dead?

So i tried running a search on this and couldn't find any info.

A guy I work with, had his father pass away recently, and he had a couple guns. He wants to sell them to me and he said he knows they're registered but that's all he knows.

My question to you guys, if any of you know, is how do I go about buying these considering the person who owns them is dead?
