I'm looking for a particular revolver and it's almost impossible to find in state. If I were able to find a local FFL wiling to do the transfer, is this OK or does it have to be on the approved roster? Just wondering of this could be done!

Thanks in advance!

I would line up the FFL first. Many will not do out of state transfers of handguns and a few will not do any out of state transfers of any type. Finding one that will do transfers is not as easy as calling and asking. It seems that the ones that will do transfers won't advertise the fact because it's easy to run afoul of the AG if everything is just right. I'm told that enforcement is not as vigorous when it comes to revolvers, but that it's very stringent for semi autos.

That's all word of mouth, so you might have different results with your search.

I am actually dealing with this same situation. Revolver is 1970-72 Highway Patrolman, so I was looking for some type of date based exception. I was wondering if C&R stuff was an exception, but obviously this wouldn't be old enough yet.

I know the bottom line is, "find an FFL to do the transfer" but I was trying to figure out if it was going to be a pain in my ass or not.

With an 03 C&R FFL, as long as the hand gun or rifle is over 50 years old or on the C&R list, it can be shipped right to the address listed on your license. The seller need not be a FFL holder, but they need to provide you with some sort of positive ID for your bound book.
