Just picked up my first Ruger 10 22, looking forward to having it forever and passing it down. I was wondering if anyone has had experience with a cheap scope for it, about $40? Brand? where you got it?

I'm in the same boat and plan to pick up a Simmons 22 Mag 4x. It is also available in 3-9x and is one of the better reviewed cheap scopes out there.

I have a Gamo from dicks 39.00 Heck I dont even remember the specs 3x9x40 I think. On my glenfield 25 for over a year and about 500 rounds. Only had to rezero once, droped it!

I've heard good things about the Hawke line of scopes. I just ordered a Hawke Varmint II for my new Savage MKII BTVS 22 LR. Take a look at their web page. They run from $45 on up. They also have a good rep with customer service. http://www.hawkeoptics.com/us/index.php

Also, I found great prices on the scopes here. Another great internet store you don't hear too much about. http://www.eabco.com/HawkeRiflescopes.html

I bought a Redhead from Bass Pro Shops (their brand).
Seems to actually hold zero pretty well, not great crosshairs or light, but OK for what I do- plinking/casual target.
