CMP Garand Inbound, list of Garand safe ammo?

Get the ammo threw the CMP. It's cheaper them any of the new garand new
Other than federal and hornady "garand " safe ammo for over a dollar a round PLUS you probably wont find it locally. Any commercial ammo will be more expensive also. QMMO is s good start. Also ACME ARMORMENT has some 30 06 surplus on clips listed in the classifieds. Just order up some from the cmp should be here in no time also.
If your thinking of buying the fed or hornady garand safe ammo check out cmp. They have hornady even with shipping its cheaper than anything I have seen. Still 1$> per round though.
Depending on your location I have about 50 rounds of greek surplus left. I paid .65 cents a round from one ofcthe old timers @ the club with 3 Greek clips.

The CMP Greek HXP is by far your best option.
Besides that, the AE "Garand Safe" (expensive at about $23/box) and qmmo, whose reloads are quality, I'd stick with 150 gr. ammo that travels around 2800 fps, the velocity of the M2 Ball. For comparison, the AE Garand Safe stuff is rated at 2740 fps. I actually have an app on my phone (iSnipe) that has a database containing the specs of most commercial ammo. You could always use that while you're shopping to make sure you're not buying hotter ammo. If the ammo approaches any more than that for velocity, I'd become a little weary.
I was lucky to score a sweet HRA SG from the CMP a few years ago, and I baby that thing to include what I feed it.

Correct, but your bullet weight and velocity at which that projectile travels are a pretty good indication of just how much pressue is being expelled, no?
In a nut shell you will be hard pressed to find any commercial 30-06 for under 1.00 per round so best bet is to stick with the federal or hornady Garand specific ammo.
.89 per round for the 150gn hornady per CMP price.
Im no expert on balistics but im sure both preasure and volume can varry widely with different powders with the same bullet weight and velocity....read up on CMP forums till you are bleeding from the ears . For me I am playing it safe and shooting known "safe" for my operating rod ammo.
As I said I have enough greek to get you by for a little shooting before your order comes in. So if your local to hanover/plymouth mass area give me a PM
You can have 150 grain bullet loaded to achive 2800fps with a Slow powder and croak you perating rod. You could load a Fast powder with the same and not function the action and still have preasure problems.
Will blow up the reciever, not likely. Can you damage your rifle you bet.
I tried the adjustable gas plug its just not for me. I purchased 200 rounds of 150gn federal ammo. Was great until I ran out. Then I couldnt find the same stuff. Went to remington and wasted 15 rounds readjusting the gas plug....couldnt be bothered.
I only know one shooter who puts anything he can find in his garand. More times than not his rifle is noticably different in noise and opperation. The gun sounds like its beating its self up.

My hope is to take it out on Friday for my Dad to shoot. It will bring back memories for him. I contacted qmmo this AM, and ordered 400 rds of hxp yesterday. Should be fun. Unfortunately DP, won't be able to get there on Sunday, Father's day responsibilities.

Fedex Just delivered my first M1 Garand. Sent the forms to CMP on June 21st and received the package today, July 11th. I was not expecting it so quickly. I am still waiting for the Bayo. It has not arrived yet. Will post pics later.
