The old New Service I got for my birthday shot so well at 7 25 and 50 yards, I decided to try it at 100 and 200. I got the correct bullets (thanks goose) and loaded them ahead of 4.2 grains of Unique. At 100 yards it put all 6 on the target, right at point of aim. I tried holding about 6 feet high at 200 and didn't hit anything. I held about 8 feet high and hit the bottom of the target twice. I guess next time I'll have to hold 9 or 10 feet high. I think once I figure out where to hold, this old revolver will put those very large and slow bullets on the paper at 200. We'll see

Sweet.... did you try running your I info through a ballistic calculator to get a idea of your hold?

I didn't try that and it would probably be helpful but shooting is more fun

I agree shooting is fun but getting close helps from the get go.
What cal do you have and whats your load. I can't shoot much so playing with ballistic and target software is a weak substitute.

That's a snappy load. What grain and type of bullet are you using?

I've told people I shoot 45's at 100 yards and they look at me like I am strange. Beach ball size patterns and I admit I don't group them. lol

I have found that when standard loads are used, in order to hit at 100 yards, hold the sights as you would at 50 feet and relax the elbow and let the pistol ride up. The rise of the weapon will bring you right into the target. Try it. 13 feet low is pretty much where they hit if I lock up the elbow like at 50 feet and take the recoil on the shoulder as a complete body function.

Shooting pistol at distance is mainly a good ability to hold your sight picture and your hold over point. If you don't have much reference it's not easy.
If you want to shoot well at 100+ yards you need a good load and good hold.
I'm not to good with pistols. I have managed to keep 16 rounds in the 7 ring @ 100 yards with a SR 1 rifle target. Normally I'm happy to hit any where on the target.

Miculek does some ridiculous distance shooting with a revolver
