I just shipped a long gun to a friend in Minnesota to trade him for his Model 1026 with two magazines in a non-serial number matching box! Hopefully I should have it buy early next week. My understanding that about 2,000 of the Model 1026 without the magazine disconnect installed (and marked with the may shoot without magazine) were issued to Virginia State Troopers in 1991 or so. The only way to know for sure will be to contact S&W. Pictures of it show a very good condition gun. S&W only made about 3,135 or these 5" barreled copies of the FBI Model 1076 with a 4-1/4" barrel.

This will be my first Non-1911 SA/DA 10mm; I have a 1st and 2nd Generation Colt Delta Elite, 2 RIA 1911s (government and commander), a Springfield Omega longslide 10mm, and a Glock 29. Here are a couple of photos of it; I will post more tomorrow when I pick it up!

There was a recall on these for a potential problem with the model; I'll know tomorrow since the serviced guns have a double pin prick under the decocking lever.

A 1911 it isn't. Here are two photos of my newest pistol, a S&W Model 1026. The 1026 is a 5" barreled version of the FBI's model 1076. Both are chambered in the tiny 10mm. It is a single/double action gun, and came with 3 9 round factory magazines. Hopefully I will get it to the range and post a report for everyone....

S&W only made 3,135 guns of this model; about 2,000 were purchased by the Virginia State Police; S&W told me this gun wasn't one of those...darn it!

CWO,

What would be the difference if it was a LEO piece? I would think the one you have would have been shot less. I'm new at all this firearms stuff and am learning more form you guys every day. Beautiful gun.

BigAl23 - I've read on some of the other gun forums that (at least in the 10xx series) that the pistols that are marked with the "Caution will fire with magazine removed" were the LE guns. It could be true, probably is but the only way would be to request a factory letter from S&W about the specific serial numbered gun.

Former LE gun (I have a few) usually have the "been ridden hard, put away wet look but inside are mechanically sound. It does depend on the gun; I've seen some LE trade-ins that look almost like new; others like they fought in the last world war, Korea, Vietnam, then drug behind an M1 Tank in the Iraqi dessert!
