Just an update. Scope came yesterday and looked good. As an abundance of caution I talked to Vortex who had me send a couple of pictures. They confirmed its 100% legit. Not sure if the deal is still going on but it turned out well.

In my experience, when batteries go on sale it is usually because the expiration dates are short and they want to dump them - may not be the case here but would be cautious
I bought a set. For $20 how bad can I get hurt? They'll go in low-end flashlights, motion sensor lights in closets, that kinda stuff, nothing high-value or mission critical.
Kids with Xbox remotes eat batteries like crazy.
Which is why I have deep stash of rechargeable Li ion batteries. I'm done paying for tons of AA and AAA batteries. They die, I recharge.
If you like the high end stuff...
