Deer season over for whacko......took a tumble yesterday a f***ed up my shoulder.

I text a screen shot of my truck location and where I'm sitting from onx hunt app to my wife, son, and brother every time I hunt alone.

Always have my cell phone and when I text the screenshots I let the same 3 people know when I plan to be back to my truck.

As far as extra clothes and stuff to spend the night......I'm never more than 1.5 miles from.my truck and by letting 3 people know my plan and screenshots of where I parked and where I sit I'd be found within an hour of them not getting a text or call that I got back to my truck at the time I told told them I'd be done. That's when I hunt locally

Up north we dont hubt alone and have a small amount of food for overnight, fire starter, matches, and clothes on us.
Something you can do is share your actual position with your phone using Google Maps. I've done it a few times. You can set an expiration time. So you can share your location with someone, for a day, for example. That way, they know exactly where you are should something happen.

Had my ortho apt at the va today. Doc did all kinds of range of motion and manipulation. Hurt like hell while she was working my shoulder.

Says I have plenty of strength in the shoulder.....and alot of pain. Suspects rotator cuff damage. Gave me 2 options that involve cortisone shots.

1. Wait on the cortisone shot and schedule an mri.......2 weeks out on mri Apts. If we schedule the mri can't so a cortisone shot today because it will effect mri results.

2. Cortisone shot now......come back in 4 weeks and see how it's doing.

I said stick me doc!

She gave me cortisone and numbing agent. Instant f***ing relief!

Wish the damned er could have given me the shot of cortisone the day it happened lol

Anyway.....gonna take it easy for the next 4 weeks and go back in mid January so she can follow up with me. I have daily exercises to do as well till I see her again.

But dammed.....feels great.....may even get a full night sleep tonight!

Awesome that the cortisone worked! You may need some work down the road, but if you have strength and you can sleep at night- you should be good to go for a while. I've had rotator cuff repair on both shoulders and each time I was kicking myself for not doing it sooner. The post op and recovery really, really sucks- but once you heal it's well worth the price.

Family story you can relate to as a vet: My Dad flew 3 tours for the Corps with something like 211 combat missions in Vietnam. Birds came back like Swiss cheese but the only injury he ever sustained was in Ky Ha one night when the VC dropped mortar shells into their camp. F-ed up his left shoulder but the doc patched him up and said this will come back to haunt you when you are an old man- for now you are good to go. Didn't bother him until he was 50.

Thanks. Yeah the doc says her experience tells her that if my rotator cuff was bad enough to need surgery I'd show more weakness......but she believes I'm in alot of pain. So we'll see how the cortisone shot works and visit again in 4 weeks. She did say take it easy and let things heal even though you have less pain.....go slow.

My military experience.....never got f***ed up even though I've seen a small amount of combat. My va ratings are for hearing loss (combat), tinnitus (combat), ptsd, and athama from burn pits. I'm one of the ones lucky enough to run the Iraq highways and not get blown to shit.
