I went into the closet today and pulled out what I thought was a BB gun. It was given to me a few years a go by one of the guys that was retiring. I put it away and never thought much about it.

It's a Diana Model 23, marked Made in Germany and what looks like a date code of 04 67. When I looked down the bore of this thing, I saw rifling. I guess it's rifled for .177?

Anyone have any info on this rifle?

Lots of infos about Diana airguns also to be found here

Diana's website in German found here

Once the 23 has the standard compression spring, it should
deliver approx. 575 fps muzzle velocity.
The resulting muzzle energy in combination with a .177 pellet
still is the legal "breakpoint" for them to be available
from age 18 over here, with no permit required.
There are still so-called "export springs" available, which
will "power up" airguns to a muzzle velocity in excess
of 800 fps. Very likely, that a Diana exported to the U.S.
is fitted with the stronger compression spring.

You may want to feed it with the so-called Diabolo (dome)
pellets, i.e. the "RWS Meisterkugeln" found here

My Diana model 48B "Black Range" with the high power spring delivers approx. 1,050 fps which is suitable for pest control.
It'll do a magpie easily.
