Does anyone know anything about this?

We just got 2 M1 Garands at the shop here and they are barrelled for 8mm Mauser, nobody seems to know anything about them, we don't know if they ever made them in 8mm or if they have been rebarrelled. The recivers are stamped 30 caliber springfield, but the barrells are marked 8x57mm. They are very polished, so they may have been parade guns, and they have m-14 handgaurds covering the reciever. Just wondering if anybody knows anything about what they might be.

Israelis experimented with converting some to 8mm. Hebrew writing on the barrel?

8mm Garands - that is a neat find.

I have no idea myself, but you might try at the CMP Garand forum.

On the barrell just below the front sight, it says 8x57mm, on the barrell by the reciever it says SISK I YOU 1.12 .308

by the serial number on the guns, they were made in 1942 and 1944

the 30-06 bullet is too small, but the 8mm fits perfect and chambers fine

I saw and handled one of those guns Bob mentioned. Watched him fire one round of 8x57. Believe it.
