First AR-15 - Opinions?

Hi all,

So a friend of mine is moving out of state and has offered to sell me his Bushmaster (16.5in). It comes with 4-30 round mags and about 200 rounds of .223. He asked me for $600 for it all - can anyone weigh-in on whether this is a good deal or not? If not, what should I offer him? Please let me know

600 is a good deal.

the ammo and mags alone are worth 120.

at 600 the rifle is a good deal...minus the mags and ammo at 480 it is even better.

Pre-ban would be the mother of all scores (of course minus the score Chris got). Let me just go over what I paid for my first AR.

I picked up a post-ban Bushy M4 for $895 plus tax. If I remember correctly they had pre-ban mags for $39.95 at the time, but I'm not sure. I bought three at the time(Don't flame me, it was my second gun purchase and I had the money) as I thought I was in the "right place at the right time", and my buddy was telling me they were classified as "GOLD" in this state.

You'd be getting a great deal even if it wasn't pre-ban. Scoop it up, or let me know his name .

Are the mags pre-ban (if you are in a pre-ban state)? He may have taken a risk.... do you want to? How many rounds has he put through it? It's a good price, but make sure it doesn't have like 20/30k rounds through it or you'll be replace the barrel soon if you want accuracy.

Thanks for all the quick replies, guys. It is a post-ban AR and I know that the mags are pre-ban (i.e MA-legal). He said that he would throw in his red dot sight as well. He's cut from the same cloth as I am, and takes very good care of his firearms. I believe there's less than 1000 rounds fired.

I won't be passing along his info though I thought I recognized this as a good deal, but thought that I'd check with some of you who may be more knowledgeable on this topic

if the "red dot" is made by eotech or aimpoint it is a piece of junk!

I don't know what brand the red dot is...even if it is "a piece of junk", I may just sell it separately and mount my trusty 3-9x scope

I got it! Picked it up from my friend yesterday. Everything looks good, though there's a little bit of wear on the finish, on the right side, just behind the ejection port. I'll snap some pictures and post tonight.

A couple of questions for you guys though: my friend that sold it to me said that he had put close to 10,000 rounds through it. Should I be aware of any service life/maintenance issues? How many rounds is my barrel good for?
