Any info on getting a new pistol. I should have my pistol permit for NY by the middle of next moth. I want to get a 1911 and have been looking at them online. I just dont know the one to buy. I dont have a lot of money to spend. I am a disabled combat Vet and have a fixed income the less money the better. Max that I want to spend is about $650.00 could go higher but rather not, used is good,[grin] thank in advance

In that price range... new... I think you're looking at Rock Island Armory or Springfield Armory 1911's... (I'd pass on Auto Ordnance's). Used... there are a bunch that will fall into that price range...

Do you have an idea of the brands you're looking at? There are so many 1911 brands out there it's hard to suggest just a few. It's really just personal preference... [grin]

Thanks for your service. To go along with what was posted already, Kimber's are nice .45's and in that price range, too.

I've seen Rock Island Armory 1911s in the $450 range in New Hampshire. I go the route of a cheaper 1911 if it allows you to also pick up a used .22 pistol. The extra trigger time behind a .22 will likely make you a better shot with a cheaper 1911 than would a better 1911.

I went a little 1911 crazy when I first got my license, and I ended up with 4 or 5 "inexpensive" 1911s. You know what I learned? Quality over Quantity.

I'd rather spend $1200 on a better 1911 than have two cheap $600 1911s. And I'd rather wait and save until I have the money to buy the gun I really want than buy something that's subpar and regret it a month later...

Colt is making a WWI model1911 but I haven't seen one. I'd get a .22 conversion kit so you can practice with the same gun instead if buying a .22 handgun.
