So I finally made my first purchase...a NIB M&P9 range kit. I had thought I would have picked up a SR9C as my first gun but for the price of the kit I couldn't pass it up. Picked it up for $550 which I didn't think was too bad.

I had been calling around looking for the SR9 and was told that Ruger is not going to be shipping any new stock to MA for the foreseeable future (not sure how much truth there is to this) but was told if I found one to snatch it up. While I did find one, the asking price seemed a bit steep and due to the shortage from Ruger the shop was not willing to budge on the price. For a little more I figured I would start with the range kit and have a versatile range gun and then I can pick something smaller up at a later point.

Haven't shot it yet but I am aware of the trigger issues but I have fired one before and while not great I didn't find it unusable as is, so I will save up some money and work on my shooting before doing anything to it.

While shopping around I did come across a S&W 908 which I really liked the feeling of. The price tag and the fact that it was discontinued kind of held me back as it was going for more than the range kit cost me. If I could find one at a decent price I wouldn't mind picking one up.

I'm sure this is just the beginning of my future collection.

you made a good choice on the M&P, ive shot the SR9C and i wasnt impressed

As for the 908, awesome gun. but depending on the price i wouldnt pay anything over 350$ for one personally. I bought a 6906 for 300$ they are out there for decent prices and they do i believe have preban mags available.

The MP has a good following specially with trigger jobs done (a must IMO). If you learn with the trigger it has stock, i guess you should be fine too. A good buddy of mine kept his stock and got used to it. He shoots very well with it.

The SR9c (best trigger out of the SR lines) (minus the 1911) to me was an awesome first gun for the price point. Couldn't beat it i'd say. The look is you love it or hate it haha.

Just my .02 congrats! =)

I agree with Steve on the 908 regarding price point though.

You can get the trigger work done by a local smith or get a drop in kit by Apex. Either one will improve it and don't fool yourself as a new shooter you want the work done on it.

I am sure you will be as happy as all the other M&P owners they have a great following.

I just Bought Stag Arms # 3 is awesome guys. But idont like its 10rg mag , unfortunately.
does anyone know whos selling : pre-ban 30rd mags? please let me know guys .I wanted to buy 1.thanks

btw. in a new member here if im doing anything wrong please correct me guys..cheers!

I LOVE my M&P 40! I had the Apex trigger kit installed and it is a brand new gun! Highly accurate and very dependable! I have put 1500 rounds of Winchester Value Rounds (box of 100 I buy at Walmart for 33 bucks) and not one FTF or anything negative quite honestly! You will be very happy with it quite honestly! ENJOY!!!!!

I have been taking a look at the Apex vids on youtube to see if it's something I think I could do myself. While I am new to guns I am not too afraid of DIY stuff, the only thing that kind of worries me is removing the rear sight. Oh well, I'll do some shooting with it and see how I make out. If some of the grit works it's way out after some break in I don't think it'll be that bad. There seem to be some happy M&P owners on here though.

Thanks guys,
the 908 I saw was in new condition, but at $599. No thanks.

599$ who ever was selling that gun is a douche

only downside is no preban mags, but otherwise its great. Ill get some stock mags as soon as i move to another state whenever the hell that might be

I have an M&P 9mm and it shoots great. I've never fired one with the trigger job, but I think the reported issues with the triggers are a bit exaggerated. Or maybe I just got lucky with the stock trigger on mine.

While I haven't taken mine out to the range yet, I have shot a stock M&P before and I think the SR9c's trigger is better out of the box I didn't find the M&P's trigger any worse than say a bg380. Just my thoughts.

Congratulations on the new buy! it is a great gun. "IF" you choose to have the trigger done I would highly recommend LaRocca Gun Works in Worcester.

He does great work & has had articles showing his work in many "print" publications..

I am on the southcoast of MA so Worcester would be a little hike...

Shiva916, you cant really lose with any of the modern pistols of our day. the only gun that ever truly left a bad taste in my mouth was a sig mosquito that wasnt broken in. The SR series from Ruger are excellent guns, and the M&P are also a wonderful product. I own both of them and am very pleased. the SR's trigger turned into a crisp excellent trigger after a thousand rounds and many dry fires. The M&P i had done by a smith before i even shot it, and is also very nice (the reset is a bit mushy but the pull is incredible).

Im certain you will love your M&P, they have quite a following.

So I got to put 50 rds of S&B 115 gr fmj through the gun yesterday and no problems what so ever. I hope that its an indication of good things to come. I had never used S&B ammo before but it seemed to run pretty clean and shot well.

Again I don't find the trigger that bad, a friend I was with has the bg380 which I shot after my M&P and I can not stand that trigger. Granted these are 2 different purpose guns and I understand the purpose of the long pull on the bg, but a few times it felt like it was bottomed out, but no...it just keeps going. The M&P felt like butter compared to that thing.

A little off topic but I also put 50 rds through a mid 80's charter arms 38 snubby. Didn't shoot all that well with it, and it shot very dirty but it was pretty fun.
