I have to start by admitting that I forgot my magazine, and had to hand feed the rifle. With all the crap necessary in going to the range I always forget something...
Anyway, I shot both .357 and .38spl. Even with my old eyes I was able to be about 95% accurate with just the iron sights. The .357 felt like a slight bump to my shoulder, the .38's were nothing.
