G19 Failure to Feed Problem

Hello Gents,

I took my new Gen 4 G19 out to the range today and ran into a problem with a 15 RD Square Notch Pre-Ban Mag that I bought online. The problem was that the last round round in the magazine wouldn't feed all the way into the chamber, everytime, no matter how many rounds were put into the mag, the last round would get stuck halfway. I was using the bargain Federal 115 gr FMJ rounds. The weird thing was when I switched to a 147 gr bullet the issue would stop, but my newer 10 rd mags feed the 115 gr fine. Is this just an issue with a worn out spring and if so should I just buy a factory replacement spring?

A new factory spring and follower makes old magazines happy again.

Sounds to me like a spring problem. Just change that out and keep the rest of the mag original and you should be fine. Sometimes brand new guns act a little funky until you get them broken in, but this is usually not a problem with Glocks.

Federal champion 115 grain is very weak. It probably isn't enough to cycle the slide with a fresh recoil spring.

But it wasn't cycling the slide with my new mags, it just wasn't cycling with the preban 15 rounder

It's just the spring. Get a rebuild kit and the problem is solved. If you don't know how to change the follower and spring, I'd be happy to help.

So I should just replace the spring? or I might as well replace the spring, baseplate, and follower...?

Get a new spring and a new factory follower, hopefully the latest followers fit the pre-ban mag.

Is the magazine very easily loaded to capacity? Seems to me that a good Glock mag spring should make your thumb hurt just a little as you're stacking those last few rounds in. If it's really easy all the way to the end, consider getting a new spring.

I have a buddy who has a Glock and the magazine is like trying to shove a bull elephant out of your way, especially when more rounds go in. I think the spring (at least) is your issue as well. Getting a new follower as well should do nothing but help.
