[Update #2--see post #26]

Took my brand new Gen 4 Glock 19 to the range today. Put about 100 rounds of FMJ Blazer Brass 115gr. through it with no issues.

Then I switched to some Remington Gold Sabre 124gr JHP and that is when I began having major issues. Failure to feed. Failure to sit in the chamber. Double feeds. Clean rack and a trigger click and no boom (wasn't a dud or hangfire or anything either; reloaded the same rounds into my M&P and it functioned as intended).

Not a magazine issue as I had the same problem with all three (also new) magazines.

The Glock just will not eat the JHP rounds.

I was incredibly frustrating and I have no idea how to correct the issue. Any constructive advice, etc., would be much appreciated. Thank you.

Different brand of JHP?

Then again I've never had a problem with Glocks eating GSes....

Was the ammo Gen 3 or 4? (j/k) [wink]

That just sounds like a lemon. It's a new gun and you should not have to correct anything on it. Take it back, send it in, etc. It should work fine with that ammo.

I had this issue with my gen4 26. It feeds tons of FML no problem. I fed 147gr Winchester t series fine, fed the cheap federal classic hi shock fine, however it does not feed Winchester 115gr +p+ jhp at all. Try different ammo.

Update:

Lou at Business End Customs solved the problem! I guess the followers on the new factory magazines were faulty. All three of them. I know, weird, but there you go. He swapped in a new follower on one and there were no hang ups. Fed everything perfectly. He also tried one of my mags in another Gen 4 Glock 19 that had never had any feed issues before and managed to duplicate the malfunction.

I am going to contact Glock and let them know about it, but the good news is Lou is a genius and my gun is not a lemon!

I can't recommend Lou and Business End Customs enough. He does fantastic work. Did an action job on my M&P9c and it's like a whole new gun. Just beautiful.

Hell of a great guy too. Helped me out a bunch with these hinky feed issues with the Glock and did not charge me a thing (but I will definitely be dropping some thank you beer off for him in the near future).

Next I just need to convince my wife to let me spend the money to have him build me a custom 1911! [smile]

Good deal. Smart guy. Weird all 3 would be bad. I wonder if they all simply had the wrong follower?

Any idea what the date of manufacture is on your gun? I've never had any issues with my Gen4 19, but I'd be curious to know whether this is a existing or potentially new issue.

^ Date of manufacture on the gun is a moot point. The followers in the new mags were faulty it seems. Could have been a bad batch of followers? I've never heard of that particular problem with Glock mags but stranger things have happened.

Glad Lou was able to fix you up mctrinket.

My point was simply that even with what is purely a magazine issue, the date of manufacture may give some indication as to what guns the bad batch of mags went out with(assuming there was a bad batch at all). I don't think I phrased it very well......

Good thought. If the OP could give us his guns SN with the last 2 digits as XX, it would also help.

In some cases the mags that went with the guns may not have been the ones that Glock originally packaged with the gun. There are numerous vendors that probably just throw cripplemags in the box when the guns get sent to ban states like MA, NY, NJ, CA.... and god only knows when those mags were made. Most of them are probably still leftovers from 2004. [laugh]

The #2 followers that came in the magazines were causing the malfunctions; switched them all to #6 followers as per Lou's suggestion.

Was the follower marked 9mm as well as having a 2 on the other end? I'm not an expert on Glock mag parts, but I think the #2 follower is normally for .357sig or .40S&W so... um... no wonder it didn't work so good?

Yes they were marked #2 on the end. Funny thing is I just bought another new 9mm mag and it had a #2 follower in it as well.

I've switched them all to #6 followers.

Weird. Just checked a bunch of recent-ish 9mm mags and all are marked 9mm and 6. - both 6 and 9mm are on the follower. Only #2 I can find is in a .357sig mag and is also marked 357 on the follower.

Update #2

Took the G19 to the range yesterday and put about 200 rounds through it, FMJs and JHPs, and had zero feed issues with any of the magazine in which the #2 followers had been replaced with the #6 followers. So that made me quite happy.

A new issue arose: that of the gun not consistently going to slide lock upon the firing of the last round in a magazine. I know there are several potential cause of this and I managed to rule them out systematically--is not a faulty slide stop, not limp-wristing, not underpowered ammo, not me hitting the slide stop unintentionally, not a dirty gun.

For instance, if I place an empty mag in the gun and rack it, it will not lock. Howerever, if I push up slightly on the bottom of the magazine and rack it--it will lock.

So I'm not really sure what the issue is, but I have ordered a new magazine release. I'll install it and see if the issue is resolved.

I gotta say though: this is my first Glock and it's not been a smooth ride. I went to no small trouble and expense to get one and I'm having a bit of buyers remorse about it. Especially when I consider my new M&P9c, which has been a flawless champ throughout it all. Zero issues. Just an amazing gun.

I don't know if I would buy another Glock at this point; but I would absolutely buy another M&P. In fact I'm considered a full-sized 9mm or full-sized .45 next.

You are going about things wrong. Just send the freaking thing back to Glock and let them make it right. I don't know why you are wasting your time and money trying to fix it yourself. Glock provides one of the best warranties in the business. Use it.

I am really reluctant to send it in but I am fast approaching the point where I think I am going to have to do so and hope for the best.

Glock will cover shipping both ways. Its perfectly legal to ship from your home. So its really convenient.

The most important thing to do is make sure you explain exactly what it does, when it does it, and the conditions under which it does it.

Tell them what you've done as far as problem solving and diagnostics.

Finally tell them what you want them to do other than just "fix it". Like, "this problem happens every X number of rounds so I want you to test fire it at least Y number of times".
