Wanted some opinions from folks...thinking about picking up a Glock 23 this week for Conceal Carry. What do you guys think...Glock 27 I felt was a bit small because i'd also like to take this to the range and have some fun with it. Any experiances with carrying the Glock 23. Is it best for inside or outside the waste band? Suggestions on holsters?

Thanks

ive had one for 3 years now. at first i was uncomfortable carrying it with a round chambered but its pretty much pointless to carry that way so i started carrying it with one in the pipe. ive only done one upgrade to it and that was a hogue slip over grip. i like that alot. i usually carry mine IWB on my side without a holster b/c i have yet to find one comfortable enough to use. i hate carrying it that way but it works for me. great gun i have had zero issues with it.

I have had one for 10 yrs it has been my edc. I like it, it's a great balance between size, comfort and round count. I have various holsters for it but find myself never going for anyone but my Comptac Mtac. I like the owb as well but can't seem to find a balance with cloths by a size big the shirt looks like a friggin tarp right size print city. So I have stuck with IWB it's what works for me.

I love Glocks, they are the Toyota of guns, what I don't like is when a gun with a normal retail price of around 500 bucks gets to be 700+++ because in MA they are made out of Unobtanium.

If you can find one for REASONABLE money and in good condition buy it, If you are paying more than 500 for one then buy something else. I am not a huge fan of the M&P line, but they are not a bad gun if you send it out for a 75 dollar trigger job by Greg Derr. That option is a lot cheaper than a Glock.

The difference in size between a G23 and a G22 is negligible IMHO, and a G22 is going to be easier to find and get high capacity magazines (pre ban) for. I can carry a Glock 22 IWB without a problem

You carry IWB without a holster? Sounds Gangsta. Aren't you worried about dropping it or pulling the trigger accidentally?

Please tell me you appendix carry.

Thanks for the feedback guys. I'll no doubt get a holster. Just need to figure put what feels better. I'm leaning more toward IWB...seems easier to conceal but of course it depends on how I feel..

trust me i dont like doing so for that reason but its the only thing that comfortably works for me. i have tried about 10 different holsters and they either are too bulky or make the pistol sit too high to be comfortably worn. i would post on this forum asking for opinions on what holsters to try next but i dare not do so in fear of getting replies like the ones quoted above.

Dude, you want to end up like Plaxico? [rofl]

Get a $12 uncle mikes clip on IWB holster (sidekick?) it's better than nothing. I carried a G19 in one for years and never had a problem.

I'm not, by far, an expert. At the same time, I'm assuming (by post count) you're fairly new to pistols. With those disclaimers mentioned, I felt the same way about grip length. After seeing an instructor demonstrate accurate shooting of his G30 with only one finger on the grip, I realized you really don't need a full fist of grip. -Over time, at the range, maybe it get's a little rough -dunno. - maybe someone could chime in about this...

I would assume the short(est) grip would conceal best.

ETA: If this post was useless to you, I apologize and will refund the 30 secs it took for you to read this - check is in the mail.

lol no i dont, and im sure thats exactly what happened to him. believe me i hate to carry this way it drives me nuts.

i looked at uncle mikes and styles like that, i bought and own a front line like this and i felt like the grip was always poking me in the side when i was sitting/driving etc.

If you are worried about the 27 being tougher with recoil I would try both before you buy. Some find that the recoil of the 27 tends to push straight back due to how the rear of the grip sits in your hand as compared to the 23 being more "flippy". The same people tend to shoot the 27 better than the 23. Try them both and see if one is to your taste before you buy IMO.

x2, the 23 is definitely snappy. my hands ache after a good day of shooting it

I wasn't being sarcastic. I think carrying a loaded Glock in your waistband without a holster is dangerous for you and those around you. You should definitely ask for opinions on which holsters to try.

+1. At least get one of these until you find a suitable holster -- it will at least keep the trigger protected.

My all time favorite size Glock. Comfortable for me in a strong side IWB Desantis cozy partner, this gun as a model 23 or 32 same gun is very versatile. You can get conversion barrels and have three calibers, 40S&W, 357 Sig and 9mm. You can get fancy with a stainless steel slide polished or color coated. This size Glock seems to fit my hand better the larger or smaller Glocks and seems to come out of the holster quicker than the others. It is slimmer then the M&P and the Springfield XD. It is also harder to find then the other larger size Glocks.
So I would not wait too long making up my mind.

your very right, which is why i said i usually carried it without a round racked until i find a holster i like. i wish there were holsters that made the gun sit lower than halfway above your beltline

Seriously -- what Mike said. There are a ton of cheap holsters that will do this for you. Uncle Mike's, Elite Survival, etc. Cheap, but effective.

I bought my 23 in 1995, have thousands if rounds thru it, carried it fall to spring in a Fobus holster.
Just changed to a G33, pocket carry.
Love it.

dude, no holster? no round chambered? you might as well not carry. you're worried about safety so you don't chamber a round yet you will happily mexican carry a pistol without an external safety? i don't get it. if you carry a with a round in the pipe you'll be a danger to yourself and others as beaker said, and then if you don't--well, go watch the video of the guy getting shot while trying to chamber a round in his weapon. you most likely will not have time to do so if you ever need to use yours, too. even then carrying without a holster is such a bad idea considering you could drop the gun while picking out a nice grapefruit at the grocery store or when you forget to incorporate a slater dump into your routine in the latrine.

get a holster and carry SAFELY! if you hate carrying this way as you previously said you really should change the way you carry.

Hey everyone thanks a lot for the feed back. Just bought my Glock 23 today. Really happy with it. Went online and found a pretty good IWB holster to try out and see if it works. Looking forward to going out to the range this weekend and trying this out. Appreciate the feed back.

Glock 23 or the 27 both have about the same accuracy and there is a difference when carrying. You will be amazed at looking at them saying "well there is not that much difference in size" but when you actually start carrying the 27 it will surprise you. Even with the plus two magazines from Glock or the Pearce plus two extensions. Which ever you buy make sure you get the sig and the 40 to 9 conversion barrels. Can not go wrong with either one, but if you want better concealment and easier carry I would get the 27.
