First if I buy a Second gen what will I be losing over a 3rd gen (other then finger grooves and rail)?

Second has anyone sent theirs back to glock for reconditioning, and is it easy for anyone to do?

Pretty easy deal to send a Glock back for refurbishing. Package up the pistol for shipping, include a letter or note telling them what you want done, include payment, and ship it UPS overnite. They charge $45.00 for slide refinishing or $60.00 for slide and barrel refinish. Return shipping is included in price.

For starters it should be mentioned that glock inc. does not recognize the term “generation”. Having said that, the main differences found in the newer models are the rails (on some models) and checkered finger groves. Over the years many of the models have also had slight changes made to them. Another feature found on newer glocks is the modified extractor. The new extractor acts as a loaded chamber indicator. The newer G27s (probably all .40 cal glocks) also have more chamber support as well as steel inserts added to the frame in order to handle the higher pressers of the .40.

IIRC 3rd gens have some extra reinforcing steel in the frame/rails. Apparently the second gens aren't the best choice for the .357 sig conversion from .40 because they can't take the excessive slide speed on a full time basis.

So i have heard that when you send back your glock for refinishing they will replace anything that is necc. i just bought a pre-ban glock 22c in mass, i've always wanted one and finally found one. My question is if i need a new frame, will they replace it? Do they charge, i mean from what i have heard they will just replace anything.....but i cannot seem to find anything much about it. i mean what if they found a seriously problem would they just fix it or would i have to pay before they would send it back? Sorry about the bad grammer and spelling!

As far as the 2nd vs 3rd IMO you should hold both and see which fits your
hand better. Some people prefer one or the other.

After shooting a friend's 3rd gen G19, I can't go back to 2nd gens, but I have other friends who don't care one way or the other.

Some glocks also have gen 2.5 frames where they have finger grooves but
no light rail.

Refurbs are easy, you get your gun back in a month or less... they never
seem to charge much unless you get your slide refinished.

This isn't completely true.... IIRC some early G31/G32 pistols were built off 2nd
gen frames. I think there -is- a difference between some 2nd gen frames,
though.... like an early 2nd gen frame has a different pin config and may not
be as robust.

To the OP, try a few, it's the only way to tell what your hand will like.

My G31 is 2nd gen, and I've put thousands of rounds through it without anything wild happening. [grin]

Not correct. Glock will replace the frame and append the serial # of the new frame to reflect that it is a replacement frame not a new frame.

Can you provide an example of this? From everything that I've heard here, Glock will not ship a newly produced 3rd/4th gen frame as a replacement for a 2nd gen frame in MA, despite the fact that it is 100% legal.

I want to send my glock 23 to the factory for refurbishing. Do you have the address, phone # or web page so I can set this up?

Four Seasons will send it to Glock for you for like 65 bucks. It is on the website FSGuns.com IIRC

If you need a new frame it will be a pre 10/98 model design frame, no finger spots, no rails. You can't send your Glock back with a damaged frame and get a Gen3 frame sorry

Yup, they usually keep a few of the older gens on the shelf for this reason. They traded me a early production G23 with a updated gen 2 frame with the metal fortified frame rails. I had initially sent it in because the poly rails chipped and they said mine was under some recall because of it. I had a choice in getting back a G22, G19 or G23. All which were MA compliant, i.e. Pre-98.

They will not make you or send you back a newer frame with your old serial number on it. There probably are some exceptions, who knows but in my case, I got back a refurb which looked new externally and had all new internals. To me, it was as good as new.

Call their customer service number on their website or from the manual. They will take care of you (basically go over and rebuild it) for the cost of send it back to them.

I do intend on getting another Glock someday but I refuse to pay MA prices.
