GLOCK vs S&W M&P

Go to a shop that has them. Pick them up. Ignore the triggers as that can be fixed. Find the one that BEST FITS your hand. With the exception of the Glock 36, Glock grips are too large for my hand. The M&P just FITS better. Your mileage may vary.

I own a Glock 19, and have shot a few variations of the M&P, specifically the 9, 9C, and 40C. I thought they were complete crap. However, last Saturday I had the opportunity to shoot a few mags from a full size M&P 9 that wasn't Mass compliant. That was a one hole gun. Very impressed with the performance, even the trigger. So I guess the lesson learned is to not base my opinions on firearms which are Mass compliant, as they are required by regulation to suck.

I got my M&P9 without the Mass trigger and it's awesome. Not to mention I hate the takedown levers on the Glocks. Never got the hang of it.

PDM,
The takedown levers on a Glock are meant to be inconvenient. That's Glock's way of telling you not to touch them more than once every other year or so...

JUST GOT THE MP .45!!!!! my god it's great, the trigger and the removed features (safty, mag disconnect) is great. I got the good gun now, and man i had a steal! 5 mags, practically new gun, 100 round .45 auto winchester ammo for 500 bucks.

whoooo pics will be up in the pic gallery

I've had a G23 for 10yrs...Love it!! My G30 has a Crimson trace, which makes it slightly too wide for my hand, it fits much better with the CT off.

I checked out a Glock 30SF yesterday in RI. Man that felt sweet. I wanted it soo bad, but then I realized it was a .45 and I'm just about retired from the .45 calibre until ammo prices become resonable again. This one was especially nice because it had the standard mag release so it would work with all my old G21 mags. Someday I will pick one up just to have if for no other reason.

Hah! Yeah, but I like to take shit apart and get the crap out of the works. You also don't have to pull the trigger to take down an M&P, which is nice. Besides, the G21 was like gripping a brick. I should have just gotten a G19 or G23, but c'est la vie.

P99AS smokes both the G19 and M&P in my opinion. In ergonomics and trigger it is my favorite. Same tennifer finish, frame material, and reliability as Glock, just better ergos and trigger.

I have owned a Glock for many years.I like it because it always goes bang and for the size it is relativly light in weight.Just yesterday I visited an old friend who owns a gun shop and I took a hard look at a S&W 40 cal. M&P.It looks nice, has a great set of sights, and feels much better in my hand than my Glock.OK now the downfall. The trigger pull was very heavy.I was told it was a 10 lb trigger but it felt more like 20 lbs to me.I am not sure if that was because the state of Mass. demands it or not ,but I think the average shooter would have a tough time getting a descent group with it much past 7 yds.

Buy it and take it to Greg Derr (www.derrprecision.com) for a trigger job. He can make your trigger 4.0 lbs or less, with a very short trigger reset.

Feel free to tell him I sent you.

Exactly what I was thinking, but I did not want to throw a wrench in the OP's decision making process.

Check the other posts on the subject. There is no question the MA trigger sucks monkey. Figure the cost of a trigger job into the price of the gun. With the trigger set to where it 'should' be it's a whole 'nother animal.

Chapter 3, Field Strip:

basic field strip winner: M&P

take down lever and tool make it easier to break apart. comes apart w / o having to pull the trigger.

detailed strip winner: Glock

fewer parts vs. M&P; can be detailed stripped in less than 3 min after doing it two or three times (for those who are mechanically inclined anyway). simple glock tool or a punch does the trick.

o.0 chapter one. - the feel

m&p - less bulky and fits for almost any hands due to changeable grip.

glock - gay 2x4 feel, extra plastic/metals which makes it more bulky.

mp takes the prize!

Even great shooters can't win matches if their guns aren't absolutely rock solid and reliable. Glock easily fits that rock solid category. M&Ps are great too... but IMO noting beats a Glock for reliability. All this being said... both are great guns. Get at least one of each. [smile]

No offense- but this is probably the least important point of comparison IMO. They are both very simple and easy to work with. So many other things are much more significant in the comparison. #1 shoots well, #2 reliable. These two items are equivalent for all intents and purposes.

well at least we agree on that. [smile]

PS: I'd posted that for the entertainment at first. Rest assure I will be posting updates as time and money allows for conversion barrels and what not..

it is very relevant IMO since "gun A" can be totally broken down by an average user after watching a YouTube video... [smile]

I know it's only a matter of time befoe the M&P catches up; but until then, the Glock is the king / queen of the detailed strip contest

Not that it matters: I'm an M&P9c carryin mo' fo'........

the offset WRT the calibers is based on the me, the average (not rich) buyer in MA with an admiration / desire for a > 10 round carry piece as they arrive. Be it a Glock 23 / 19 3rd gen because they had to compare to the M&P compact platform in the ergo dept.

LOL- both are easy. You need to search YouTube better. [laugh]

Both of these pistols have their supporters and detractors. Most of them are willing to go on and on about why the one they like is better and why the other is worse.

I have owned Glocks for many years and like them. The mid- and small-size fit my hand comfortably and thus I am able to shoot them moderately well.

I have tried a few M&Ps and they do not feel good in my hand nor is the trigger pull (subjectively to be sure) as good as my Glocks.

That is why I choose the Glock over the S&W M&P.

Your mileage may vary and you are the only one who can make that decision for yourself.

Frosty, if you'd stop buying your M&Ps out of the local gun shop's bargain bin, you'd probably be much happier with it. [wink]

I used to be a big time Glock guy, owning a 17, 19, 21, 27, 30, and 36. I still have a few now, but my new gun love is the M&P.

Each one I have has had Greg Derr do his magic on the actions.

I have found them to be reliable, accurate, and sturdy. How can you beat the two free mag promotion?

For me, it's none of the above.

I've never been able to get on the Glock train - they just don't feel right in my hands.

I owned a M&P 45 for a while (non-MA variety), and it felt amazing in my hands until I pulled the trigger (regular trigger). I loved the ergonomics, but I couldn't stand the trigger pull - more specifically the double reset of the trigger and trigger safety.

Then I was able to find a Springfield XD 45 - all my problems were solved. I love it! I shoot remarkable well with it, I love the trigger pull, the ergonomics are good (although I admit, not quite as good as the M&P), I love the grip safety, and it's easier to field strip than any gun I know of. I sold off the M&P 45, and I've never looked back.

If only I could get high cap mags for it...
