Going to apply for LTC in MA

Hi all. im planning on applying for my MA LTC. I don't foresee any problems (no adult record, 8 years military, I work for the sheriffs office). What should I have prepared for the process? letters of recommendation, completed safety course? any help would be great. thanks!!

If you have a juvie record, it will be looked at (there is no such thing as a "sealed record" wrt gun licensing in MA) and could be a problem depending on what is in it. Sheriffs Depts don't get much respect from local PDs, so that isn't going to give you any advantage either.

Safety course is a state law requirement, although SOME police academies (unsure about sheriffs academies) qualify to meet the required training.

The rest is 100% dependent on your local chief as there are 351 different sets of "rules" on what is required.

No quaetion #10 doesnt care. I had a CWOF from 20 years ago when i was 14 that had me paranoid, but i still got my permit.

Agreed. Some towns like Salem and Boston are aggressive, some other towns are OK with it. I am still waiting for mine to come in (in a green town), I will have reached 40 days tomorrow.

Let us know the town/city you're in and we can certainly pitch in with local experts, we have "reporters" stationed all over the Commonwealth...

Your expieriance in ma completely depends on the town... My town is in the top 10 most armed percentage wise in the state... When I asked for my ltc they didn't ask why just put all lawful purposes on it and said why did u wait so long? But others are less fortunate!
