This is actually a pretty simple operation, and if you have access to a table saw, you should be able to do it yourself. If it's a real expensive gun, go professional. If you want to do I yourself, put a couple layers of masking tape on the wood, and use an abrasive disc in the saw and slowly remove material. This was literally one of the first 'smithing operations my dad showed me.
