Guns stolen from checked baggage on Boston bound flight.....

I cable lock (using a real padlock, not a TSA one) my guns to the frame of my luggage when putting them in checked luggage so they cannot easily be taken out of my luggage. A friend had his luggage "misplaced" when flying. The luggage was found in a restroom (not surei if the secure on non-secure side) with the guns missing.

Looking at the guns that couple had stolen, I would say that are persons of considerable taste, culture, refinement and social sophistication.

This is why my suitcase is a Pelican 1615. Just put padlocks on every eyelet. Have to either cut a bunch of Abloy pucks (or the case) or steal the whole thing. None are impossible, but neither are they low visibility.

Absolutely ridiculous. With all the stringent bullshit laws on guns you would think that firearms transportation would be foolproof. You leave firearms in the hands of government monkeys, this is what happens. Obviously the state-approved protocol doesn't work if a government employee is able to bring the gun case to a secret location, use bolt cutters, and leave the airport with just the guns, and no cameras to witness any of this.
Even if the guns are found, I'll bet they'll make the couple fly to NC just to retrieve them.

baggage handlers are federal employees now?

So do they occasionally just cut off the real locks when needed to inspect?

Seriously asking... HOW can a pair of glocks come out to be worth $4000?? Even with PRM prices that seems more than a little padded to me.

Also, why would someone not put a locked pistol case inside a regular suitcase, with normal stuff in it? Granted I've not flown (with, or without guns) since around 2006. Actually, I've never flown with firearms at all.

Rmr, flashlight, comp, barrel? Easy to get anything over 2k with upgrades

TSA locks are for the luggage. The gun case inside the luggage gets secured with a non-TSA lock. If they want to see inside, they have to call you down to unlock it.

I would probably spring for some airtags inside the mags if they are restricted mags - you have the spare space on a 15-round mag and they aren't going to disassemble the mags. Tiny splotch of adhesive to keep the air tag from rattling around, and let the POS's catch charges.
The king thanks you for being so compliant

You’re forgetting that POSes don’t have charges stick. They just rat out someone(maybe fictitious) in exchange for being getting all firearm charges dropped.

Ages ago before the TSA my wife and I flew to AZ I brought a rifle and handgun with us.
Checked the locked case at baggage inspected contents then slapped a great big tag with the word "FIREARM" thought to myself why not a tag that says "Steal me".
This was the 80s btw.

They eventually figured out how stupid that was, and now the tag goes inside.

I've heard that the claim ticket has clues for those who know how to look, but I'm not one of them.

A good tactic for long guns is using a hardshell golf bag as a disguise.

Makes sense.
I should have quoted @Mesatchornug, are you locking your entire luggage?
100%
The Pelican is a "hard sided case." I put my clothes, etc., in it, then put my unloaded pistol and ammo in the organizer in the lid. Then I padlock the entire thing.
Bam! TSA compliant, and everything I own is behind the same quality locks. And TSA has to ask me to come open it if they need to inspect.

No, in my experience they call you if the need to inspect the hard case with the gun(s) inside. If it's packed inside a suitcase, the Orange Card is supposed to be taped to the outside of the case. You're supposed to put your cell phone number on the card. If you're tansporting a gun case, the card goes on the inside.

As it happens I flew out of Charlotte Douglas last week with a Pelican case with six revolvers inside. When I checked it was SWA, the nice lady at the counter suggested I wait outside the secure area for 15 minutes in case the TSA wanted to get into the box. That's because if you go through security you have to be back out to open the case for them, then go back through security.

I got no call and when I got back to Austin the bag was in the oversized baggage area waiting for me.

The link you posted is outdated. TSA approved locks are not required or even suggested any longer for firearms. There are 12 master keys for TSA locks and it seems like there are a lot of them floating around.

I use Master Locks and always take two keys on separate key chains in case one gets lost.

ETA: I have a travel gun which is cheap and easily replaceable if something happens to it. I don't travel with one of my more expensive hand guns.

Noveske Glock. lol. And what is the other one? Isn't that just a Glock lower with one of those fancy PSA ported slides and a TiN barrel? The pair of Glocks have threaded barrels = assault weapons in MA. Are they in trouble for that?

The only clue I've seen lately is that they will put a tag that says "BSO" on the luggage. Which doesn't necessarily say that there is a gun in there, it just says that the bag has to go to the Baggage Service Office and be picked up there. American and Delta do that, but SWA doesn't.

**SSSS** on your boarding pass means that you've been pre selected for "random" advanced screening. That happens ocassionally even to people with Pre Check. I don't think it happens if you have Global Entry because that is a much more thorough examination, including an in person interview with an ICE officer.

Yeah, can't see how the two of those adds up to $4k. At least not if bought at non-retard prices. Then again, in the PRM, glocks go for retard level prices all day long. At least if what's posted for sale on NES is any way to judge. [rofl2]
