Well in Japan, the word Shima means island so I guess he could have picked a worse place: Hiroshima (a modern city on Japan’s Honshu Island)...

IIRC, back in the late '70s, a guy was nervous about Russo-Yankee Armageddon, leading to nuclear TEOTWAWKI.

He did his research, and decided that the best place to be, was the Falkland Islands, for safety's sake.
