Help diagnose 1911 problem

The guide rod and GR plunger need to be in the slide. As the GR head is against the frame when the slide hits it.

Also take a look to see if the GR plunder sits below the shoulder of the slides guide rod tunnel

Got it, however this particular pistol doesn't have a traditional guide rod system, from what I have been told it's like a Kimber, it's a bull barrel with no bushing, the guide rod, spring and plunger/plug all come out together. there is a hole in the guide rod and you have to compress the spring and put a pin in this hole to take the tension off then the whole thing comes out as a unit, but I think i can still try what you are saying

Forgive me if I'm not explaining this good, I really appreciate all the help.

yep. What you can do is when you have a pin in the GR with the spring and plunger on. See is the plunger will compress the spring all the way so that the plunger hit the face of the GR head

Or with the guide rod, plunger and spring in the slide, see if the GR will go all the way forward and touch the slide

Ahh, I think I see where your going now, I'll give it a try when I get home tonight.

The other thing to look at would be how the guide rod head fits to the frame. There is usually a lump on the backside of the guide rod head, sometimes it is just a rounded lump, others I have seen are more of a machined round with a more precise fit to the frame. Either way, it should fit between and below the front of the slide rails in the frame so that the flat part of the back of the guide rod head is against the frame. In other words, it should not get hung up or bound on the "lump".

So just an update, I sent the gun back to Armscor. Short story is they replaced the gun, they didn't go into details but the paperwork I got back said "customer concerns validated". I will say my experience with their customer service was excellent.

As an aside, when I took the gun to the Fed-ex place to ship it out I told the girl what it was. The look on her face made my day, she was actually frightened. I told her don't worry honey, it won't go off on it's own, I don't think she liked that...lol
