help with ATI GSG 5

OK, so I bought a new GSG 5, took it apart and now I have extra pieces, which I have learned in the past is a bad sign....

The part is designated as #51 in this diagram on the reciever:

It is about an 1.5" long and has a small spring that attaches to it.

I have two probably stupid questions: 1) what does this part do? and 2) How does go back in?

Any help folks can provide is appreciated,

its the bolt hold open you dont really need it. Infact I took mine out of my gun

Thank you, makes sense. I shot it today for the first time. Very smooth, shoots very well with several differnent types of ammo. How has your shooting experience with it been?

I love the gun it runs all the bulk wal-mart ammo beautifully. I also SBR'd mine this made it even more fun.

I've been getting more and more interested in purchasing a GSG 5, hopefully sometime this month.
