I think the AK is more his style. Think about it. He fell down a frigging mountain, and came out not only still functional, but better looking.

For crying out loud - Gandalf would be toting a Barrett .50BMG painted in winter camo to match his clothing. For Gandalf the weight would not matter (Elfin magic would make it as light as a feather) - he would shoot APIT exclusively. Why screw around when you are taking on a Balrog or a Nazgul??
