I just got a new Highpoint 995 9mm. I love it. BUT there are some weird things about it that I'm not sure are normal. #1, when you press the mag release the gun has to be straight up and down for it to come out, sometimes I have to shake the gun to get it out. I'm used to my handguns and the AR that the mag springs out almost. So I don't know if this is normal or if there is something wrong. The other thing is it hurts to shoot it. There is obviously no recoil, but the vibration is so strong that it left a bruise on my shoulder and it feels like its rattling my teeth when my face is up against it. The one I shot in the past I don't specifically remember that and I feel like that would be something I would remember. Any insight?

Don't know about the magazine but I found the recoil abusing my face as well. I figured it was the unnecessary spring loaded recoil pad so I cut and wedged a piece of stiff foam in where the springs are. Now the springs can't compress and the gun doesn't move around - much better. I don't know why they put springs in there, maybe if you drop it it will bounce back up into your hands.

Magazines are the worst part of that series of gun. The magazine release works just enough for you to be able to pry it out of the receiver. The magazines themselves are rough, crappy pieces of metal that barely function.. Still love that mongrel though...

I'm so glad that these issues aren't just my specific gun. I really do love the gun, with open sights, first range trip shooting it (and being relatively new to shooting) I got dead center on a playing card at 50 yards. Thank you for your help!!!

I have hacked at mine, and put on tacti-bling, until I laugh just thinking about it. It is a fun plinker, and has been fun trying to go "over the top" (like the angled buis), and the red dot makes shooting the gong out at 172 ft boring, but in a nice way.

i haven't found it to hurt my shoulder, but the muzzle DOES jump on each shot.
mags are ok, but I have smoothed things a little with 1000 grit.
