Newish lurker here,

Am an active duty guy in late 20s who has been stationed in Boston area since this summer following a stint in California. I have been kicking the can on getting started with a local club to shoot regularly due to a compressed schedule but am over waiting. CCW without recent trigger time in is responsible to me, plus still have to zero my rifle with new optic.

Any recommendations for first steps with HSA? I understand going to the range to shoot but not sure what events are 'open' and I am laughably terrible on the skeet range! I've seen other clubs around but I do not have time capital to be fully involved with day-day functions.

Do you use two different shotguns for skeet and trap or can you get away with the same one?
As with anything of course there are benefits to using guns specifically suited for each one, but being more of a rifle/handgun guy I only have one shotgun and just use that. It’s a semi auto duck gun, fine for trap and maybe a touch long for skeet but it works for either, but I honestly have only shot skeet a couple times since I’m so bad.

If you like handgun games the USPSA guys hold an open shoot every Wednesday night. Anyone can attend and it's a good way to get to know some people. Now that it's dark at night they'll be moving indoors. Check the calendar and show up to one.

This is great insight - thank you!

Wednesdays are tough but think I will be able give it try before Thanksgiving. Hopefully this doesn't lead me to pouring $$ into race guns.

We're closed to the public for practice until spring, unfortunately. Not enough daylight to shoot outside anymore
