Might eventually move put of MA, to NH and I was wondering, how would I go about changing a MA compliant AR-15 to a non compliant model? Is it expensive to do?

thanks

Depends how it's done . And what your capable of doing your self.

Bayo lug... Swap out front sight.

Solder muzzle device . Heat up and clean threads .

Pinned stock . Replace or unpin depending how it's done.

Well, with mine, I could make it extra killy in about a half hour or less in my workshop. And not a very advanced workshop at that. I suppose it all depends on how your AR was neutered. The only thing I can't do is restore the bayo lug. But that's just parts. Cheap enough.

If you do move why not just try to sell the ban style rifles in Mass and buy new rifles in nh? The modification costs may offset with the difference between you sale of the old and purchase of the new...and it would be a lot easier.

I have post ban stuff. If I moved I'd keep them. They shoot good. bayo lugs aren't' that important to me aside from wanting one because they said I can't have one. That to me seems the most difficult part of a conversion to me...but not super important at all. If it came to that I'd just buy another gun...lol

I think it comes down to what features do you feel the need to add?

About the only one I would really bother with is adding an adjustable stock.

Full capacity mags, brand new, for a reasonable price are more attractive than trying to remove a brake to add a flash hider. I would just shoot it till the barrel needed to be replaced anyway.

Though I could probably buy a whole new rifle for what I would make selling off preban mags before I left.

You can make it non compliant simply by crossing the border into New York. Why reinvent the wheel? /s

Unless your AR is worth a lot (as in like over $1500) my advice is to dump it before you move out of MA, it's a lot easier and cheaper that way.

Uppers and adjustable stocks are cheap but like said unless you got a bunch of money tied up in a 1500 AR just dump it or make a SBR out of it and rethread it for a can.

I recently moved to So. NH and kept my four MA-ARs (3 are completely built). Three are old RRAs - two have incremental SNs and the other is an old (2000ish) DCM rifle. The last is a Colt.

One of the RRAs has a fake a collapsible stock and I plan to swap it out. I am not really sure if I care about swapping out the barrel (pinned AK comp) and adding a lug.

I thought about selling some of them before the move, but decided against it because I know these rifles and there is no profit selling used ARs in MA, like say a pistol not on the list. In fact, a sale would probably have lost money. So for about a hundred one rifle will get a collapsible stock. The one getting built up (over the last decade and half) will also probably get one (eventually) as well as a 9mm upper.

Best of luck with your decision.
Anthony
