Hey everyone. A buddy of mine offered to sell me his preban wasr AK-47, w/ 2 preban mags. If I remember correctly he said it was made in mid 80's. He asking $800 and is willing to hold onto it until I have all the cash.

I don't know much about AK's. Is this a decent price? Looks to be in good condition including the furniture.

Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

AFAIK there are no pre ban WASRs. They were made on US receivers here in the US. Sure the parts might be old and the trunnion dates will show that, but the receiver is what determines actual production date for that gun.

That said I think it's too high of a price. J&S in Acushnet has brand new ones for $695.

Fit and finish look WASR. These usually had a muzzle nut welded on with standard 14/1 threads underneath. Hence the 74 style muzzle brake that someone added.
The sling looks Chinese. If you get it I'll trade you a correct Romanian sling for the one that's on there.

To me they're $500 guns at best but things are slowly settling down after the panic buy that happened last year when they were going for $900 from distributors.

Thanks everyone for the info.

I don't think he's yanking me on purpose. Like me, he's no gun expert. I think he might have accepted the rifle in a trade and was told it was preban. Now I'll have to brake the news to him.

Something that will make you cry... WASR-10s were available in 2004 or so for $259. (or less, in some places!)
