Guys, I'm looking to buy a glock 17 and I have been watching classifieds and visiting stores and I cant quite get the feel for median price for your average run of the mill used G17.
The fact that there are various generations of g17 doesn't really help the matters and it's not like there are tons of them out there to get nicely sized statistical sample.

I'm interested in gen 2, 2.5 or 3
what would you say would be a reasonable expected purchase price range for an average glock - not too rough not too mint?
Note that i live in Mass

I appreciate feedback in advance.
Thank you.

so time to tally up:

price voted
================
$350 5
$400 6
$450 4
$500 8
$550 1
$600 5
$650 0
over $700 1

15 people think price should be around 450 or less
8 people think 500 is a fair price
6 people think that 550-600 is acceptable price

I'm on my seventh Glock and I haven't paid more than $525.00 for any of them, granted they are all gen 2 or 2.5 and some were factory rebuilt and a few were beat up but I went thru them, re-finished the slides, replaced the sites, etc. IMO some of the asking prices for gen 3 and 4 are bat shit crazy but people will pay it. I've said before but finger grooves and a lite rail aren't worth double the price....but that's me.

300-350 for a Glock 17 in Mass? Those would be snatched up VERY quickly.

For a used 17 in mass you're probably looking closer to $450+. I understand the pricing is ridiculous, and it's more than I'd pay for a used one, but when is the last tine you saw one in the classified section for $300-350?

For gen 2 or 2.5, I would pay $350. For gen 3 I would go up to $425 maybe $450.

I expect you will see the prices higher than that in MA, however. I can't remember exact prices but M&M's in Plymouth usually has a small selection of 2 or 2.5 gen Glocks in the $500-525 range. Good luck in your search!

I bought a NIB gen 3 17 for 600. If it wasn't NIB I would have walked away. Love Glocks but I try to find MA legals out of state and transfer them in for a reasonable price. Some out of state dealers are up on the serial range for gen 3's and I haven't bean
burned but I dont know how they would handle it if there was a goof and a non compliant one was sent. So buyer beware.

Thats what I mean. You got a great deal. I was more refering to gun shop prices. Not the broke guy down the street selling everthing because hes loosing his house.

You can get anything cheap if you wait long enough.

A Glock is a 500 dollar gun new, don't pay stupid money for one because the MA .GOV has declared that they are made out of Unobtanium.

I'd rather have a new M&P with a Derr trigger job and a couple of C notes in my pocket for ammo and leather.

Would you pay 50 grand for a used Toyota Corolla in MA because the .GOV said you could not buy a new one from a dealer?

A Glock is a much better investment than an M&P. Within MA they hold their value, unlike the M&P. A trigger job is worth $0 because everyone does them - they don't add to the value of the gun when selling, at all.

At the end of the day - you can get about what you paid for a Glock used - you'll lose a couple $100 on an M&P, unless you bought it cheap used to begin with.

Glocks are inflated by the market due to the fact that they're harder to obtain, and they sell at market price. It doesn't matter if they are $500 elsewhere new. The going rate someone will buy them for in MA is higher, you'll usually get your money back as long as you sell it within MA.

Ya they said the same thing about Harley Davidson motorcycles and Craigslist is flooded with bikes that people think are made out of gold, and bikes that people are so far underwater on they need TriMix in order to breathe.

Lets say for the sake of conversation Glock decides to make a MA compliant weapon, or this whole AG/EOPS crap goes away and Glocks are now flooding the market in MA, then what happens to these 900 dollar guns?

so true, that's why is so crucial not to overpay. or at least not to overpay as much.

My Glock 30, 22,17,and 19 were all purchased in MA and I have yet to pay over $425 for any of them.

My advice would be to skip the 17 and buy a 19 ( or the 30! [devil2] )

a Glock is a better "investment"? I shoot my Glocks and M&P's so I dont give a damn about there resale value. Neither a Glock or a M&P is investment its a tool.

It's all about supply and demand, and what value you place on the gun. As you know, there is relatively little supply here in MA.

A G-17 sitting in the safe doing nothing has little value, a G-17 in your hand when you need it has a lot of value.

Especially when you have a few 33round "back-up" mags...

I'd pay around $600 for a nice G-17. Before I buy a firearm, I check slickguns.com to see what the free states are paying and take it from there.

Good luck.

With 2 preban hi-caps

Gen 1-2.5: $500
Gen 3: $600
Gen 4: $700

Sad, but true :(

^This. If you're willing to do a little extra and be a little patient you might be able to knock the price of the Gen2 down by about fifty bucks. Most of the out of state guys, like Glockmeister, have figured out that they can get way more money for MA friendly guns in the last six months or so. The price for Gen4 guns seems about right and I sold my Gen3 about a year ago for $625. Kinda wish I hadn't now, as the MA friendly Gen3 17s seem to have dried up a little...

You can say that for conversation but it aint gonna happen anytime soon unless you know something I don't. Truth is people want what they think they can't get and a used Glock will always fetch 100 ish more than a comparable M&P that someone dumped even money into for a trigger job.

Last time I checked Harley's weren't illegal to sell by dealers, they were just in short supply, so that's not an apples to apples comparision. The Ruger SR1911 is a good example of that, and yes, there will be a lot of them out there for sale when the rush ends. And for certain they won't be getting MSRP for them anymore. Buying anything high during a shortage always increases the risk that you'll lose in the end.

There's not many guns you can purchase, use for a time, and sell for close, at, or over what you bought it for, but in MA Glock is one of them.
