I have a stock mp ar 15. I shoot lefty and I think i would like the left handed ar much better.
Should I change over my upper to a left handed version or just buy a different rifle? Another option might be to buy a complete left handed upper, or should I buy a stripped left handed upper. If I went the stripped route what else would I need besides a charging handle? I am not sure what will swap over from my mp15.
I have never built one but am very good with tools. I may be looking in the wrong place but there does not seem to be much info on left handed ar swaps.

No need to get a lefty upper, Madball will be asking shortly to tell of his Stag left.

I'm shooting rifles LH and but all RH rifles. My AR is modified with the following:
BAD ambi safety
Norgon mag release
ACLM ambi charging handle

I tried the Troy ambi bolt release, but never really used it so I took it off.

Where are you located? You are more than welcome to shoot my rifles if you are near HSC.

Taking my Stag lefty to MRGCI in a while. You can try it if you want, assuming you paid to go.

Do you have a compelling reason to change to left?

I'm a lefty and shoot barricade drills with carbines and high power with right handed rifles and have never had a problem or ever thought I would need a lefty gun.

Actually, I hate having to take my left hand off the handle and switching hands to get to the charging handle with my left hand. Before I posted this I did not really give it enough thought. I guess I could just change the charging handle, put an ambi saftey and bee good. I am thinking I will be going that route.

I just finished making my DPMS left hand friendly. I put in a Troy Ambi mag release, ACLM charging handle and a rock river arms star Ambi safety. The jury is still out on the safety, but the other components make the rifle much easier to manipulate. I havent decided about putting in the BAD lever. I dont have much trouble locking the bolt back with the paddle. Also, I never thought to go with a LH upper as the ejecting cartridges don't bother me.

Go with the whole new set-up [wink].

I went standard with the ambi options. Some advice I followed from this board was to get proficient with the setup of 99% of the ARs out there as well as preserve resale value should you need to sell it. I also went with a Piston as I felt the gas in the face was less after trying a few DI's and Ps.

You already meet the criteria above; full lefties intrigue me and I'm sure you'll be happy with that setup and have a traditional to go back to. Besides it will a put another full lefty in the community to tryout!

I have a RH as well. The LH has a 24" bull barrel and has sniper legs so I use it mostly for bench or prone. The other is a carbine LMT and it is becoming my favorite rifle. Just wish it were lefty as well.
