I am trying to sell a rifle and have a possible buyer, but he lives on the south shore of Ma. and I live up in N.H. and was wondering how to ship a rifle to him. Also what is involved with the transfer
of said rifle.
Thanks,Bill

You send to his FFL assuming he cleared it with destination FFL. Remote might require copy of your photo ID. After you send it there its no longer your problem- transfer is out of your hands and thats the dealers to deal with. Get a receipt from the remote FFL basically stating they intaked the rifle, for your records.

also I was wondering how to package it up and how to send it.
Easiest is to have a local FFL in your area deal with the outbound shipping -- he knows how to package a rifle, has plenty of boxes on hand, and can deal with the shipping company. Get a price from a couple of local shops.

SHOCHNAWE, what was the cost to have them take care of everything?
Thanks Bill

One was a $1500 Rifle and total cost with $1500 Insurance was $75 and it shipped to AZ
Other one was a $600 Rifle and total cost with $600 Insurance was $60 and it shipped to North Carolina

It was done at Bobs in Salisbury, hope this gives you a decent idea of cost. They took care of everything, packaging, insurance and shipped it out.

Have him drive up to a NH FFL and do the transfer up here. You don't have to go to commietwoshits and it's perfectly legal!

I strongly disagree with this.

Use common sense. Double box it if possible. Ship it the cheapest way you can. Probably the US Postal Service. Remember non licenses (non-FFLs) can ship long guns via USPS.

If you have a high dollar gun, registered mail added on top of priority mail is the only way to go. The firearm is fully insured against its current value (not the case with FedEx or UPS even if you buy "full" insurance". and must be signed for by USPS employees at each handoff.

I shipped a $13,000 20 ga Parker DHE to Larry Delgrego for a checkup via Registered mail, at his suggestion. Larry handles dozens of $15,000 shotguns per year. I'll assume he knows what he's talking about.

I sold an AR last week. I transferred it to an MA resident through a NH FFL, couldn't have been easier. Different than what you asked, but quick and effective.

I am about to do this: drive to NH and buy a rifle from a private party at a NH FFL. Want to make sure this is kosher. And once I get back to the People's Republic of Massachusetts, do I have to do anything? Thanks in advance for the advice!

Perfectly legal. Do an eFA-10 as REGISTRATION, NO info on gun source, when you get back home and done.
