I have designed the perfect pocket holster (for me). It may be great for you too.

Folks, I've been carrying either a .32 or .380 pistol around in my pocket for the better part of 35 years. It started with a Seecamp .32, then ran into the Keltec P3AT, then the LCP, then the Glock 42, then the Kahr P380 and finally an LCP Max.

I currently have the P380 and the Max. The Kahr is small enough to be an "always" gun, the Ruger with its 10 round mag is a bit pudgier. I'm a firm believer in the idea that a .380 in your pocket is better than a 45 at home. So acknowledging that I'm a wuss when it comes to weight and bulk, I pretty much put a pocket gun on when I get up. In fact there have been times I've decided to carry my P365 and realized that I still in fact had my Kahr in my front pocket. ha.

Suffice to say that I have a good list of requirements for my pocket holsters. After I got my Kahr about 10 years ago I made myself a holster that was nearly perfect. Within a month or two I knew its issues but was too lazy to make another until last week when it started to crack.

With all this time pocket carrying, I'll get into my requirements.

1) Must completely cover the trigger guard opening. This may not be a necessity with a regular holster, but it certainly is with a pocket holster, where things may accidentally end up in your pocket with the gun.
2) Must not add unnecessary bulk. Holsters like the Remora and the Desantis Nemesis add a TON of bulk. It kind of defeats the purpose of carrying a tiny gun if the holster nearly doubles the total volume.
3) It must hang up on the draw and not come out with the gun. Most holsters don't do a great job of this. The Kydex holsters are better than the ones made out of rubber, like the Remora or Nemesis. But most still aren't very good. The Vedder is close, but the hook isn't aggressive enough and it comes out with the gun when I draw.
4) Must retain the pistol reasonably well. This works against the holster hanging up on the draw since the tighter a holster holds on, the more chance there is that it will come out of your pocket still on the gun.
5) Must hold the gun level in my pocket. Most of my pockets sweep up in the rear, so if the holster is cut level at the bottom, it will hold the gun rotated forward. This makes it harder to get a clean draw and more importantly , in pants with large pockets, makes it more likely the gun will rotate with the weight of the slide out of vertical, resting with the slide on the bottom and the muzzle pointing back.
Because of this, I want a holster that if set on a flat surface will hold the gun with the slightly off of vertical towards the grip.

Please don't slam me too hard on my actual fabrication skills, this thing is ugly. But it's good. I may try again this weekend to correct the one flaw (see below). If I decide to keep this, I'll sand and finish the edges to make it look better. And I'll also replace the trashed rivet that I screwed up.

1) The trigger guard is completely covered for safety.
2) Its made of .060" kydex. This is thick enough to be as rigid as it needs to be, but thin enough to add very very little bulk.
3) It has a very aggressive rear hook, as well as a FRONT hook that really does a great job of making sure the holster stays in the pocket.
4) The front hook extends forward of the slide which helps to prevent the pistol from rotating out of vertical.
5) The cut of the holster makes it so the gun sits slightly off vertical towards the grip. This further prevents it from rotating forward during normal activity.

With all that said, it's not perfect. As a lefty, I have a few times over the years bumped the mag release and released the mag. I should have extended the material up over the mag release and stepped it off by 1/8" to protect the mag release from being pressed.

Also, the front hook may be too aggressive. It is a real pain in the butt to get this out of the pocket at the end of the day. But I think I'll keep that as is.

Other than that, this thing is damn near perfect.
It takes up much much less space than a Desantis, Remora, or Sticky.
It hangs up better and holds the gun at a better angle than a Vedder

By the way, you can make a template for your gun by just using a sheet of printer paper and drawing and cutting until you have something good. There are tons of videos on Youtube on how to actually mold the holster.

I wanna say FIST makes something similar. It's been a long time since I looked. I think they have the sight-channel pulled back so you can push with your thumb as well.

It's a good design.

Good job, I've got so much muscle memory with a Desantis on flicking it off as I draw, that it isn't a huge issue, but I'll have to see if anyone makes a super thin one like this. Haven't looked at holsters in years for the LCP. Like you I had the LCP, LCP 2, LCP Custom, and now 2 of the LCP Max's. I carried a Max about 99 percent of the time I carried last year vs an M&P fullsize. Right up until.. The Bodyguard 2.0 came out. I urge you to try one, or just go buy one. In my eyes it has made the entire LCP lineup obsolete.

This reminds me of what I’ve got, Flashbang’s The Betty 2.0 for my 2 favorite EDC’s. Love ‘em. I first started with the original 15 yrs ago. I highly recommend this holster. Adjustable cant, tuckable, and many patterns and colors available. Aimed towards the ladies, but lots of design choices for guys. Custom made for your make/model. Sorry this sounds like a plug, but whatever

Very similar to the Aholster, though the Aholster has the front Kydex hook at the top instead of the bottom of the pocket. Goes very niecly with a Glock 43, which allows that gun to earn its space in my safe since I got a 43X for IWB carry.

125% guarantee? You have to admire a company that is so confident in it's product that if you don't like it, they will give you back more than you paid for it. That is unheard of and a pretty powerful statement.
I hardly ever pocket carry any more, but I am going to order one for my PM9 for those rare occasions that deep concealment is necessary.
Great tip Rob. Thank you.

Great setup. I’m a huge 380 fan, pretty much all I carry. My favorite is the Glock 42View attachment 959400

Do you put the gun in front of or behind the pumpkin in your pants pocket?

How many pairs of pants have got holes in them now?

Yeah. Those sharp points need to be smoothed down for sure.

That was it. Not FIST. Seems like FIST has downgraded their product line recently as well. TBH, the only holsters I ever got from them were the Ultra Thin Kydex appendix holsters. Very skinny, built right, work well.

The A-Holster has a significant flaw. The best practice for drawing a pocket gun involves putting your thumb on the top of the slide to make sure that it doesn't hang up on the way out. So you shouldn't really have the holster extend any further back than the rear sight.

Way less recoil with a 42, much quicker and on target follow up shots
I owned a 42. It was a great shooting gun but was on the edge of what I would pocket carry. I found myself carrying the Kahr most of the time.

The 43 is a bit larger, but more importantly, it's a good deal heavier once it's loaded. The slide is thicker and the ammo is heavier. For me, it becomes a gun to be carried in an IWB holster. And if I'm going to bother with that, I'm carrying a 365, which gives me a better trigger pull, softer recoil, and more ammunition.

They make great holsters. But this is just a basic kydex holster. No rake to the bottom edge, no front hook. In my experience, this will come out with the gun more than half the time.

The angled design is genius! I use a Desantis with a LCP daily, always sits crooked in my pocket.

Thanks. Like I said, lots of experience. I've been carrying a pocket gun since 1990.

I've since rounded over the sharp points and used a scotch-brite wheel to soften all the edges. It still hangs up on the way out, which is great.

I use a Galco Pocket Holster for my pocket carry. Leather. Has the angled hook in the right spot. Ive been very happy with it and have it for multiple pocket guns I use. IMG_7365.jpg

Unfortunately ware are limited to 10 rounds carry in the DPM (even if we own grandfathered mags), so the criteria includes "no larger than required to contain the maximum legal capacity".

The G43 only holds 6 rounds. The P365 holds the MA legal max of 10.

And yet, the 365 is smaller than the 43 in every dimension other than height. ANNNDDDDD , Much easier to shoot fast with accuracy. The smooth rolling break of the 365 without noticeable stacking makes for a much more effective small gun.

I write this as someone who generally dislikes Sigs and almost exclusively shots Glocks and 1911s when I compete.

Actually, 6+1.

The 43 is only for pocket carry, the 43X 10+1 for conventional IWB or OWB holsters.

I've been primarily pocket carrying for about a decade. Ran an LCR in a Desantis Nemesis for a long time, then a P365 in a Vedder, and now a G43 in an Alabama.

The current setup is by far my favorite. The Alabama holster is slim and the hook keeps it in my pocket quite well. The Glock is far superior to the P365, imho. I'm running a +2 extension for a total of 8+1.

By that metric, then the 365 is 10+1. l
;-)

Bottom line is that the 365 is easier to shoot, smaller, and holds 4 more rounds than the G43. It's not competitive anymore.
Excellent and enlightening info - thanksf for the public service.
