They sure don't make them like they used to.

Pre model 15 5 screw Combat Masterpiece made approx 1952

So far in the process of cleaning it up, I have found a few different places where the serial number is stamped.

1) Frame
2) Cylinder
3) Yoke
4) Barrel
5) Under the extraction star

If I had the original grips, I'm sure that those would have the serial reflected on there as well.

Lockup is tight and the DA trigger has to be the smoothest I've pulled. I'm really enamored with these older S&Ws.

The metal also feels different. I've had a mid 80's M19-5 and a late 80's M36 and those did not feel quite the same nor did the timing and lockup feel tight as this old workhorse. The matte bluing is worn in spots but it still looks pretty good for a 57 year old.

Here's a pre-cleaning pic. I don't has a post cleaning handy.

That is a really cool revolver. I've recently become very interested in revolvers in general.

More pics after some cleaning. Sorry lighting sux.

This one is definitely been out and about. Lockup is amazingly tight still and the lands and grooves are still sharp. Trigger is the best I have pulled. I can't stress that enough. I'm sure this one has been through alot of love and abuse at some point.

Ugh. Looks like I will be skipping a few more lunches for another few months.

Thanks for the 411. I'll see if I can make a trip out there tomorrow sometime to check it out.
