They sure don't make them like they used to.
Pre model 15 5 screw Combat Masterpiece made approx 1952
So far in the process of cleaning it up, I have found a few different places where the serial number is stamped.
1) Frame
2) Cylinder
3) Yoke
4) Barrel
5) Under the extraction star
If I had the original grips, I'm sure that those would have the serial reflected on there as well.
Lockup is tight and the DA trigger has to be the smoothest I've pulled. I'm really enamored with these older S&Ws.
The metal also feels different. I've had a mid 80's M19-5 and a late 80's M36 and those did not feel quite the same nor did the timing and lockup feel tight as this old workhorse. The matte bluing is worn in spots but it still looks pretty good for a 57 year old.
