I'm building a dedicated .22LR AR-15 upper.

I have a threaded barrel. Can somebody recommend a cheap ban-compliant muzzle device?

TIA

One of these looks like it would work good. Eagle Remington Model 597 22LR Slipover Muzzle Brake.

These people have them for $29.95 and they look great.

Type in muzzle in search.

I believe that if you choose to attach a muzzle brake or comp it must be permanently installed. I wouldn't do it but rather say with the thread protector.

I believe EC is well aware of that fact.

If he is, the answer is a "no brainer". Why vandalize your barrel with a weld on or silver soldered muzzle brake (or comp) which will offer no advantage, except the added weight at the muzzle. A centerfire rifle comp will just not have enough gas to work with in a 22LR application. Leave the barrel alone.

Because he wants to? [thinking]

...a semiautomatic rifle that has an ability to accept a detachable magazine and has at least 2 of--
(i) a folding or telescoping stock;
(ii) a pistol grip that protrudes conspicuously beneath the action of the weapon ;
(iii) a bayonet mount;
(iv) a flash suppressor or threaded barrel designed to accommodate a flash suppressor; and
(v) a grenade launcher;

“No person shall sell, offer for sale, transfer or possess an assault weapon or a large capacity feeding device
that was not otherwise lawfully possessed on September 13, 1994. Whoever not being licensed under the provisions
of section 122 violates the provisions of this section shall be punished, for a first offense, by a fine of not
less than $1,000 nor more than $10,000 or by imprisonment for not less than one year nor more than ten years,
or by both such fine and imprisonment, and for a second offense, by a fine of not less than $5,000 nor more
than $15,000 or by imprisonment for not less than five years nor more than 15 years, or by both such fine and
imprisonment.

[thinking]

I believe I'll call this a "felony fail" instead of "no brainer".
