I'm looking for an M-4 not crazy in price and not cheaply made. I need some opinions from you guys on a good manufacturer and whether I'd be better off going with 5.56mm, 6.8x43mm or 7.62. I'm trying to keep it around $900. Feedback will be much appreciated. Thanks

Wish you the best of luck. Almost all of the AR patterned weapons, including M-4 style carbines I've seen have been running well over $900 more like 1200 - 1600 and up.

Start with the 5.56x45 and then buy other uppers as time allows. You'll need a different lower for the longer 7.62x51 round, but you can get a pretty good range from 5.56x45 all the way up to .450 Bushmaster, .458 SOCCOM and 500 Beowulf on the base AR lower. You can even get a single shot bolt action 12.7x99mm (.50 BMG) upper for an AR-15 lower.

I'd wait a year, now is not a good time to be buying ARs. Obama had a big chance to announce a new AWB 2 weeks ago when he wetn to Mexico. Instead he said he would not seek a new ban. They (dems) are worried about losing congress. I still a new ban could well be in our future, but there's a decent chance it won't come in the next 2 years.

If the AR bubble bursts, we could enjoy the flip side of this whole "supply and demand" thing that people keep posting about.

With that said, if I had the cash I've love to pick up one of those DPMS .308s. Mags would be tough to come by, but that's a hell of platform.
