I was changing stocks and couldn't get the top hand guard off.....without thinking I removed the front gas cylinder assembly....after realizing that it probably wasn't a good idea I looked through the manual and sure enough it said it should not be removed and is set with special tools. I put it back together but I have no idea if its set right....[crying]

Is this really a big deal? or should I send it back to Ruger to be repaired?

Ruger of Newport NH is about 30 min away....I wonder if I can drop it off without shipping it.

Any help is appreciated.

If you put it back where it was it should be fine. Look at the sides of the barrel where the two pieces come together and make sure they line up to their previous resting spots and tighten the bolts evenly, criss crossing diagonally until they are tight.

The worst that will happen is the gas hole would be partially obstructed due to misallignment and the gun might not cycle correctly. Nothing catstrophic.

Make sure your op rod goes over the gasport easily and isn't binding either.
