looking into getting my first centerfire boltgun. looking to really research before i go and buy as i plan to look in the $5-700 range for the rifle without glass and would really like to have something i can keepfor a while and not end up regretting once i get to be a better shot. ive been shooting alot of 200 yard .22 the last few months and thats mainly what i plan on using the gun for 2-300yd. but 600 sounds like alot of fun. so id like to have something that once i get good enough with i can now and then take somewhere that i can shoot longer distances. i was origionaly thinking .308 but since 97% of the time itll be used for shorter distance shooting .223 sounds like a smarter choice. from what ive read not as good around 600 but will still doit. id rather sacrifice a little on that end in trade for a more affordable round. doesnt matter how accurate something is if i cant afford to spend plenty of time behind the rife to get decent with it. so my main question is... is there any place i can look to find an ideal twist and barrel legnth for .223 at longer ranges or do any of you have any suggestions or input?

You don't have to look anywhere.

I am going to tell you the answer right now.

Get a 24" 1/8 twist barrel and be done with it. You can shoot anything from 45 to 80 grain bullets at sane velocities without a single problem.

DO NOT listen to idiots who argue about the effect of twist on accuracy. They are ignorant about what makes a barrel accurate.

Just in case you wonder how I know what I know, I have a Master classification in NRA Highpower Rifle and I earned it with an AR15. I have more than a little bit of knowledge about what it takes to drive a 223 from 200 to 600 yards. And that knowledge didn't come only from books or the interweb.

I agree with Jose 100%. I'll add , you can't beat a Savage rifle for most bang for the buck in a bolt gun. I read and hear there new stocks for accuracy are great..

Yup. Savage Model 12 BTCSS in .223 is about as much bang for the buck as you can get. It is a 1 in 9 and really likes 69gr HPBT bullets.
I have all my load data and you are welcome to it if you get one. The only thing I did to the gun was put a ground recoil lug, improved pillars and glass bedded it.
Here is a 10m airgun target shot at 200 yd with mine:
